內心的快樂才是真正的快樂

The Happiness Inside Is True...


有些學佛的人,沒有一個完整的修持方法,沒有一個正確的目標與方向。今天學這個,明天修那個,什麼都沒有精通,都是一知半解,似懂非懂,腦子裡滿是矛盾衝突。結果越修越懶,越修越傻,越學越糊塗,越修越沒有信心。


Some Dharma practitioners attain neither a complete way of practicing nor a correct aim and direction. What they learn is not stable, which results in mastering nothing, only with smattering knowledge and a confused mind full of contradiction. Consequently, the more they learn, the lazier and more confused they become; the more they practice, the more stupid and less confident they are.


什麼叫越修越懶?很多人都念佛、誦經、打坐,把自己關在屋裡,一不動二不說,不接觸人,不接觸事,不愛活動,不愛勞動,都變成懶鬼了,而且習慣這樣了。都變成什麼樣的人了?家裡家外都不像個樣子,家不像家,人不像人,傻乎乎的,誰看見都傷心,有些人還自鳴得意,「我這是苦行!」沒有動功,也沒有靜功,什麼功力都沒有,心一直沒有清凈過,最後讓自己的身體垮掉了。因為不明理,一有病就動搖了,開始懷疑佛法,最後徹底灰心退步。藏地有一句話,叫「一個人看見了,讓一百個人傷心。」很多人都是因為看到這種情況而對佛法產生了不好的看法,不敢學佛,怕變成這樣的人!

What does it mean to become lazier with more learning? While praying to Buddha, chanting sutras or sitting in meditation, lots of people lock themselves inside the room, not moving, talking, contacting others or doing any work. At last, they become lazy and get used to it. What a person he or she has turned to! Work and life are messed-up. Home doesn』t look decent, and the individual looks crappy. Whoever sees it feels upset about them. However, they are blindly proud of themselves, 「I』m practicing ascetically」. For lack of dynamic exercise or static exercise, they have never got a pure mind, and eventually break down. Without a true understanding, the moment they get sick, they will become double-minded, suspicious of Dharma and eventually discouraged. As a Tibetan proverb goes, one man sees it, then one hundred men will feel sorrow, which means 「bad news has wings」. Many people arouse wrong opinion about Buddhism, not daring learning Buddhism for fear of becoming such kind of person!

這種情況,現在非常普遍!不要這樣,別把自己弄壞了!按世間來說,世間法沒有做好;按佛法來說,佛法也沒有修好。什麼都沒有做好,今生今世也沒有真正快樂過,這麼痛苦,還說是苦修。苦修不是這樣的!


Such is a common phenomenon nowadays. Don』t act like that. Don』t ruin yourself. In a worldly view, they are not performing mundane laws well; in a Buddhism view, they are not performing Dharma well either. Good at nothing, they have never experienced true happiness but pains, and even blindly call it an ascetic life. These are indeed not the austerities!

苦修,表面上看是苦,內心裡是快樂的。那些苦行者,雖然沒有物質的享受,但是他有精神的享受。精神的享受才是最大的享受,內心的快樂才是真正的快樂。這方面我也有一點點的感受。你們現在的條件,跟我們以前在喇榮的條件比起來,可以說是天壤之別!那時候我們吃不飽,穿不暖。住在土房裡,夏天外面下大雨,屋裡下小雨;冬天外面刮大風,裡面刮小風。按物質條件來說,我們最差、最苦。冬天早上下課回來,手腳都會凍僵。晚上參加辯論回來,整個手都會凍得裂開,流出膿血,特別苦,但是內心的快樂是無比的。


An ascetic life appears painful, but the person feels happy inside. Those practitioners enjoy themselves mentally instead of physically. The enjoyment in mind is the true happiness, which I have experienced a little myself. Your living conditions at present contrast sharply with those in Larung, where I used to live. We didn』t have enough necessities. Our mud huts were leaking, and we suffered a lot in rainy and windy days. In terms of materials, ours couldn』t be worse. On winter mornings, after coming back from morning classes, our limbs would be frozen. In the evenings, after coming back from debate, our entire hands would be frozen to splits, with blood and pus. It was extremely hard but we felt great contented inside.

在喇榮比較自由,想走可以走,誰也不會阻攔你。但是我們誰也不願意走,一剎那也不願意離開。這是什麼原因?因為我們精神上的享受、內心的快樂是無比的,是無法形容的。我們的上師特別慈悲,特別慈愛我們,佛法是甘露,上師每天給我們講經說法,讓我們天天享受佛法的甘露。我們這些金剛道友們也特別團結,特別和睦,互相尊重,互相幫助。上師曾經講過,喇榮沒有別的特點,這麼多人都能團結和睦,這是喇榮的特點。我們隨時都談論佛法,享受佛法的精華。不僅僅是我,每個人都不願意離開。

It』s free in Larung, for it』s up to you to stay or leave, and nobody will prevent you. But none of us would like to leave, not in the least. Why? Because our mental enjoyment and inside happiness were matchless and beyond words. Our Guru was very merciful and caring. Dharma is nectar. Our Guru taught us Dharma every day, so we could enjoy the nectar of Dharma. Vajra brothers were united and harmonious, respecting and helping each other. Our Guru once said the only feature in Larung was the union of so many people. We could discuss Dharma at any time, enjoying the essence of it. Everyone, including me, wouldn』t like to leave there.


我在喇榮的時候,有一天,來了一位家鄉的客人,他覺得我們的環境太惡劣了,條件太差了,希望我不要留在這裡,還是回寺院去。那個時候我在心裡笑他,可憐他。他只能看得到外在的這些物質條件,根本不知道我內心的感受。


One day, when I was in Larung, a guest came from my hometown, who thought our living conditions were so terrible that he hoped I had better go back to the temple instead of staying there. But at that time, I felt pitiful for him, for he only focused on materials, not understanding my inside feelings.


我們一講米勒日巴的故事,有的人就被嚇跑了,覺得修行太難,太苦了。其實米勒日巴不一定要經歷這樣的苦難,實際上他內心裡不苦。但是他為什麼要示現這些,給我們演這樣的節目?這也是一種表法!他的內心充滿了無比的快樂,他才是真正的成就者。雖然他的物質條件極差,在表面上看苦,但是他有唱有跳,內心享受著喜悅與快樂。這才是苦修。


The moment we told the story of Milarepa, some people would be frightened away, feeling it too tough. Actually, Milarepa didn』t have to experience such hardships, and he didn』t feel painful inside. But why did he present that, making such a show? It』s a kind of the demonstration of Dharma. With unmatchable happiness, he is a real siddha. Though it appeared tough with extremely poor materials, he still enjoyed delight inside, singing and dancing. That is what is called an ascetic life.


你看自己人不像個人,家不像個家,自己也痛苦身邊的這些眾生也痛苦。這不叫苦行,根本談不上修行,還能談得上苦行嗎?別做這個夢了!應該醒一醒,好好地表法,好好地修,該吃的時候吃,該穿的時候穿,該用的時候用,一切隨緣,不要特意執著、追求這些。你特意地執著於追求苦行苦修,也是一種魔,也是一種障礙。你特意地執著追求富有,也是一種魔,也是一種障礙。我們任何時候都要走中道,要走正道,要保持適度,不偏不倚,不能墮入兩邊。


Look at yourself, a crappy person in a messy home, you are making both others and yourself suffering. It』s not even practicing, let alone ascetic life. Just stop daydreaming and wake up! Express Dharma effectively and practice carefully; just eat, dress up and spend when it is the right time, which means to follow all karmas and don』t attach to or pursue those on purpose, otherwise it』s also a kind of devil, a kind of obstacle. We should choose the middle way and the right way, keeping moderate, and avoiding falling into either of the two extremes.


有多大的福報就享受多大的福報。來了也不拒絕,沒有也不追求,走了也不留戀。這才是真正的修行人。緣分到了,你特意不要,甚至去逃避,這也是一種障礙。緣分不到,你特意去追求,去執著,這也是一種障礙。


The more blessing one has, the more one can enjoy. Never reject when it comes; never pursue when it leaves; never cling when it disappears, which is what a real practitioner should do. It』s also a kind of obstacle to avoid it on purpose when karma comes; it』s also an obstacle to pursue it on purpose when it is not the time.
