王必慈：張大力所有的作品都具有重要的思考討論價值

Q：王老師您好！我們很榮幸的邀請您來北京民生現代美術館參加《恆久與無常一一張大力新作品展》的開幕式和與之相關的研討會活動，就您多年對當代藝術的研究，您認為目前中國的當代藝術是否已經形成了自己的特殊語言？其背後所傳達的思想是否能夠解釋目前中國當下的現實？

A：四十年以來中國當代藝術發生了顯著的變化。其中一個關鍵的改變在於藝術與其歷史的交互和對話：藝術史怎樣來書寫，如何表達。基於這個史學方向的轉變，藝術家，策展人，與批評家對於藝術史和其表述方法的各種研究形式表示出了興趣。

Contemporary Chinese art has changed significantly over the past four decades. One of the key ways in which art has changed is in its own engagement with its past—how its own history has been written and represented. In this historiographical turn, artists, curators, and critics have all expressed interest in examining various forms of art history and narration.

Q：張大力是中國當下最活躍的藝術家之一，您怎樣看他的創作？

A：張大力的作品對於文化遺產，現存的社會制度，以及都市人的生活和都市生活的空間，進行了批判性分析。他不僅通過整合一系列當代的和歷史的題材，並且還通過多樣化的的藝術創作形式來提出問題和質疑。他從多角度展示了藝術家是如何研究與解讀歷史的。

Zhang Dali』s works offer a critical examination of received cultural heritage, extant social institutions, and accepted ways of thinking about the people and sites of urban life. He issues these challenges not only by addressing a range of contemporary and historical subject matters, but also via a vast breadth of strategies for artistic production. He showcases important ways in which artists study and interpret patterns of history.

Q：張大力號稱是個＂極端現實＂主義的藝術家，那麼怎樣理解他作品中的＂恆久與無常＂？

A：我們在觀賞張大力的作品時，總是能感受到它所表現出來的時間性。無論是《第二歷史》中對逝去年代的重現，還是《100個中國人》中與勞動相關的時間，亦或是《對話》中所表現的都市文明飛速發展的時代特徵，他的作品總會引起人們關於時間以及存在的深刻思考。從這一意義上來看，他的所有作品都通過時代風貌的表現深刻地解讀了「恆久與無常」這一概念。

When we see Zhang』s works, the issue of time is always present. Whether it is the historical time of the past—as in A Second History—or the time associated with labor—in 100 Chinese—or the accelerated time of urbanization—in Dialogue—Zhang』s works offer important meditations on temporal existence. In this way, his works all offer important commentary on the temporal aspects of 「permanence and impermanence.」

Q：您覺得張大力的創作最讓您有所觸動的是哪一件？

A：張大力所有的作品都具有重要的思考討論價值。

Q：中國即是一個發展中國家可同時又是一個資本市場無孔不入的國家，藝術市場的口味影響著年輕藝術家的創作，您怎樣看藝術和市場的關係？

A：藝術和市場的關係十分複雜。不能忽視市場對藝術的制度性意義，但是同時也不能允許市場成為衡量藝術品價值的唯一標準。

The relationship between art and the market is complicated. While it』s important to remember the institutional significance of the market to art, it is also necessary to not allow the market to become the entire metric for value-determination.

Q：能否告訴我們您認為什麼樣的狀態才是最好的創作狀態？

A：在創作時保持批判性的態度很重要。

It』s important to maintain a critical attitude when examining art.

Q：藝術創作是靈感的爆發還是理性的結果？

A：藝術創作包含多種因素，這個問題提到了其中的兩種。在張大力的作品中，這兩種因素我們都可以感受到。

Artistic production encompasses multiple factors, the above-mentioned being two among many. In Zhang』s work, you can see both of these.

王必慈（Peggy Wang）

王必慈是美國鮑登學院藝術史和亞洲研究專業的助理教授。她主要研究藝術的意義和藝術史在文化全球化語境下是如何建構的。在她熟悉的中國當代藝術領域，她的研究超越了一般異議者的敘事而探尋藝術和政治在中國是如何交織在一起的。她在衛斯理學院獲得學士學位，在芝加哥大學獲得藝術史碩士和博士學位。2010-2017年她擔任《當代中國藝術：第一手文獻》的助理編輯。她在《藝術月刊》，《藝術史月刊》和MOMA的網站雜誌上都發表過文章。她目前正在撰寫一本關於90年代至今的中國當代藝術中的社會政治介入的專著。2017年，她將作為富爾布賴特學者並在廣州美術學院任教。

Peggy Wang

Peggy Wang is Assistant Professor of Art History and Asian Studies at Bowdoin College in Maine, U.S.A. Her research centers on how meanings and histories of art have been constructed in light of cultural globalization. With a particular specialty in contemporary Chinese art, her research tracks the weaving of art and politics in China and proposes ways in which they can be seen beyond narratives of dissidence. She earned her B.A. from Wellesley College, and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Art History from the University of Chicago. From 2007 to 2010, she served as editorial associate for the Museum of Modern Art publication Contemporary Chinese Art: Primary Documents. Her recent publications have appeared in Art Journal, Journal of Art Historiography, and for MoMA』s website post. She is currently completing a book-length study on artists』 strategies of socio-political intervention in contemporary Chinese art from the 1990s onwards. In 2017, she will be a U.S. Fulbright Research Scholar at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts.
