英語美文朗讀：孤獨

For me the most interesting thing about a solitarylife,and mine has been that for the last twenty years,isthat it becomes increasingly rewarding. When I canwake up and watch the sun rise over the ocean, as Idomost days, and know that I have an entire dayahead,uninterrupted, in which to write a few pages, takea walk with my dog,lie down in the afternoon for a think(Why does one think better in a horizontal position?),read and listen to music, I am flooded with happiness.

對我而言,獨身生活中最有趣的——也是我最近20年以來深有體會的——就是它使生活變得越來越有情調了。當我早展醒來看到太陽從大海上冉冉升起的時候——儘管我幾乎每天都是如此——我就知道面前將有沒人打攪的整整一天時間了。在這一天里，我可以悠閑地寫幾頁文章，可以帶著狗散散步,午後還可以躺下來思考思考問題(為什麼平躺的時候更加有利於思考呢?)，看看書，聽聽音樂，心中洋溢著快樂之情。

I am lonely only when I am overtired, when I have worked too long without a break, when for the time being I feel empty and need filling up.And I am lonely sometimes when I come back home after a lecture trip, when I have seen a lot of people and talked a lot,and am full to the brim with experience that needs to be sorted out.

只有在我過度疲勞的時候，或是在我工作太久而沒有休息的時候,或是在我當時覺得空虛因而需要充實的時候，我才會感到孤獨。而有時，當我在外地演講後趕回家的時候，當我和許多人見面並且交談甚多的時候，當許多經歷多得要溢出來，因而需要整理的時候，我才會感到孤獨。

Then for a little while the house feels huge and empty, and I wonder where myself is hiding.It has been recaptured slowly by watering the plants, perhaps, and looking again at each one as though it were a person,by feeding the two cats, by cooking a meal.

那個時候，房子一度讓人覺得太大、太空，而我卻不知道自我藏身於何處。也許通過給花草澆水，並對其逐一端詳，好像端詳人一樣;也許通過喂那兩隻貓和做一餐飯，我才能又慢慢捕捉到自我了。

It takes a while, as I watch the surf blowing up in fountains at the end of the field, but the moment when the world falls away,and the self emerges again from the deep unconsciousness, bringing back all I have recently experienced to be explored and slowly understood,when I can converse again with my hidden powers,and so grow, and so be rewarded, till death do us part.

過了一會兒，我看到地平線的盡頭海浪如泉水般噴涌，那一刻，世界消逝殆盡了，而自我從深層的無意識中再一次浮現，這才使我想起最近所經歷的一切，讓我去探究、去愎慢了解。此時，我又能與隱藏的力量交流了，於是我又在成長，並在成長中得到回報，直到死亡將我們分開。
