造成南北買菜差異的主要原因可能和氣候有關。中國北方由於交通不便，冬天蔬菜種類稀少，便逐漸形成了囤菜的習俗。而南方天氣濕熱，食物易腐敗變質，更習慣於天天去菜市場買菜。

Difference between northern way of food shopping and the southern way may be mainly due to the varied climate. In northern China, the inconvenient of traffic and lack of vegetables lead to the custom of hoarding vegetables. While in southern China, the weather is too hot for food to store, people prefer to go to market every day.

買菜風格的差異也對雙方的認知造成了一定的影響，比如提到冬瓜，北方人腦海中的形象是這樣的——

其實，中國的南北之爭由來已久，除南北買菜差異外，還有很多發人深省的經典命題，最經典的莫過於「豆腐腦的咸甜之爭」。

關於咸豆腐腦還是甜豆腐腦的爭論最早可以追溯到2011年，彼時的甜咸之爭更像是黨派之爭，甜黨咸黨相互指責對方的口味詭異，喪失了豆腐腦味道的精髓。最終在中間人士的調節下，雙方決定舉行「雙邊會談」。雖然雙方後來各自妥協，承認只要自己吃得開心，這些都不是問題，但最後總要倔強地加上一句，豆腐腦我只吃甜/鹹的。

至於這場戰役是怎麼打響的，還要從日本知名死神小學生江戶川柯南講起。柯南擁有雄厚的知識儲備，時不時就給漫畫里的成年人講上一課。某集漫畫中他給囧傻呆萌的目暮警官科普了一發：「中國人可以用一隻手從1數到10」。

這本應成為一個寓教於樂的溫馨橋段，但卻被漫畫中展示的7和8的手勢瞬間搞得腥風血雨——

一個知名博主首先發聲，稱身為一個中國人，才知道原來「7」的手勢是這樣的，並附上上面的圖片。隨後……

據說，這場戰役的參戰人數之多、規模之大、範圍之廣可謂空前絕後，大家紛紛放下手中的豆腐腦，全心全意地投入到這場聲勢浩大的討論之中。慢慢地，人們發現，戰爭已經逐漸從南北之爭升級為了全國混戰，甚至，還出現了不同版本的官方真人示範——
