I saw a post in the sidebar from the lakers sub about Kobe"s 09 and 10 run. It brought back a lot of nostalgia and I was genuinely surprised as I forgot how good his numbers were. For whatever reason Kobe is among the most hated players on this sub and the narratives around his career. People act as if he was the Kenny smith to Hakeem olajuwon rockets and that Gasol was the real "best player" on the team.

Kobe always has been a beast. Always had injuries on his shooting arm and played through it no matter what. Dude just has a glued together hand at this point since ball is life. Him tearing his rotator cuff then proceeding to play only left handed was the most Kobe thing ever.

What gets me is when he broke his finger he altered his shot to compensate for it. He didnt just play through injuries, he dissected them and solved them like puzzles

Also his 2008-2010 runs were during the Western Conference of death years. You had to win 50 games to try to MAKE the playoffs. Kobe bailed us out so many times in clutch competitions. We didn"t need a super team to kick 50 win team"s butts. Kobe just fucked the souls of the Suns and Nuggets and Rockets.

Kobe in general is underrated on this sub.

If you watched the NBA from 2000-2010 you knew that he was the most unstoppable guard/wing since Jordan. But instead people will just look at his TS% from Bbref that year and draw their assumptions off that.

I think it"s because of lot of people here started watching the NBA in the 2010"s when Kobe started to decline.. but 2000"s Kobe is unstoppable..

Btw Kobe didn"t decline until his injury. He was putting up MVP numbers when he went down.

While Kobe only got 1 MVP, he was seen as the best player in the NBA from 03-08 once Lebron finally took over. Duncan was a close second however and there were some years in that stretch where he was better than Kobe.

He"s underrated on this sub and overrated by casuals (or maybe in general). When some of my friends and I discuss Kobe for example most all of them will have him top 5 without question and often higher. On r/NBA though I"ve seen him at 14th or 15th all time for example and I can"t see that. Personally I"d rank him 10th, but I could see arguments for anywhere between 9-12

Also we lost in 2008 but Kobe almost "single-handedly gentlemen swept the defending champs San Antonio Spurs and their core was all essentially in their prime still. makes me sad that gets overlooked so much. But we hear about Lebron"s game 5 and game 6 so much.

Bill Simmons said that series was the closest Kobe has ever looked to Jordan

I got absolutely downvoted to hell for saying his 2010 WCF were comparable to LeBron"s 2012 ECF, if not better. As if it were blasphemous.

Listen. As a Celtics fan who watched Kobe tear us down in 2010, I have to say this man in unreal. Him and Lebron have done the most damage to us in my generation but Kobe is the only player I simply could not come up with a plausible game plan to stop him. He just willed his team to victory with shots and plays that regular ball players aren"t capable of.
