We all saw Kawhi emerge onto the scene as he took home the FMVP in 2014. He then took his game up another notch, raking in back to back DPOY awards. But what he has done this year, and what he s currently doing in the playoffs, is just flat out unexplainable.

If most improved player of the year voting factored in playoffs(ie the 2014 NBA Finals) you could make a case Leonard might be in the top 10 of that vote every single year he s been in the league.

Year 2 expanded his offensive game rookie year he really was mostly in that 3 and d mold only

Year 3 became NBA Finals MVP vs LeBron

Year 4 really took on sometimes even the lead role of offensive responsibility on SAS.

Year 5 finished 2nd in MVP voting

Year 6 Added 4.5 ppg became a better passer and even better more subtle shot creator. The best defenders last year at times could stifle him offensively; hasnt been the case this year so far at all

Which is just absurd. Even from last year where he was 2nd in MVP voting ahead of LeBron to now the improvement has been noticeable in terms of offensive shot creation ability.

Wonder what he has for an encore next year. Just imagine hypothetically if he consistently improved every year at this incremental rate he s shown through the end of his career. Lol

Thats so strange, he s been playing great D, for the most part the Spurs have been playing great D, this is why a lot of defensive stats are flawed

That s why I listed LMA s for some perspective. Other starters have even worse drtg. Like Tony has a 115 rtg. So it s not great overall because the team isn t great.

Defensive stats stats tend to be way less accurate on small sample sizes because the game totals for important defensive stats like steals and blocks are so low compared to game totals for offensive stats like points and FGA.

Because of this the most useless/inaccurate stats to use on small sample sizes are defensive advanced stats like Defensive Rating. That s why it ranks Derozan above Kawhi and Roberson.
