Gao Fan and his wife Niu Weiyu have made photography their life-long career. They participated in the revolutionary cause since the anti-Japanese war era, using photography to achieve their ideal of national salvation. 牛畏予，1927年出生於河南唐河，1945年參加革命，在抗日軍政大學學習，1947年任晉冀魯豫軍區政治部宣傳幹事。1951年初轉業到新聞攝影局任攝影記者，後任職於新華社攝影組至退休。
