On one hand, the new constitution written by President Rafael Correa, the nationalization of oil resources and the large-scale investment infrastructure have contributed to the unprecedented cultural and economic changes in the country. On the other hand, the exploitation of resources, international interests and conservative forces in the past century still exists in the country. The balance between the past and the future is being built on a new identity that has not yet been clearly defined, but is still working to contribute to the development of Latin America as a whole.

皮特羅·鮑里尼於1981年出生於義大利佛羅倫薩，2005年畢業於佛羅倫薩的Fangazione Studio Marangoni工作室。2004年，他開始轉移對南美現實的興趣，重點關注新的社會主義國家：委內瑞拉，玻利維亞和厄瓜多。

Pietro Paolini was born in Florence, Italy in 1981. He graduated from the Fondazione Studio Marangoni in Florence in 2005. In 2004, he started to puruse his interest in the South American reality, focusing on the new socialist countries: Venezuela, Bolivia, and Ecuador.

In 2006, he founded the TerraProject collective, which deals with social and geographical issues in Italy through collective projects of documentary photography. His photographs have been exhibited in Italy and abroad. He has worked as a freelancer with many Italian and international magazines. In 2009, he won the Canon Young Photographer Award. Since 2010, he has been selected to be part of the Reflexion Masterclass by Giorgia Fiorio and Gabriel Bauret. In 2012, his work Bolivianas won a prize in the World Press Photo Contest.
