Seriously though, this exactly. We knew we were going to be over, so we went all in to retain as many assets as we could.

With Dame, CJ (both locked in 4 more seasons) and Nurkic (and his bird rights) healthy, we"ve got our big three. We"ve got a bunch of guys who are still young and can develop into quality role players (or better in the cases of Vonleh and Harkless) for a contender. We"ve got three firsts in this deep draft and all of our future firsts as well.

The only thing we don"t have is cap space, which has never done Portland any good anyways. Fuck cap space.

I"m not totally sure why Blazer fans conflate "can afford it" with the importance of cap flexibility. Sure, Paul Allen can probably afford paying upwards of $200 million per year in player salary every year, but does he as the owner or you as a fan want the team to be riddled with assets that aren"t worth what they"re being paid, thus making them very difficult to move? Surely you"d like the Blazers to be able to go after the occasional free agent or be able to make the occasional trade, right?

Damn that"s some terrible contracts. Turner and Crabb both being paid like productive starters / borderline allstars, when both are performing like sub-par bench guys (PER of 11 ish for each - oy).

If Lenard gets back to how he performed in 15-16 his contract isn"t hideous. If her performs like last year, he doesn"t belong in the league.
