Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty is a colossal neoclassical sculpture on Liberty Island in New York Harbor in New York City. The copper statue, a gift from the people of France to the people of the United States, was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and built by Gustave Eiffel. The statue was dedicated on October 28, 1886.

Inspiration for the statue came from a female icon in American culture that was a representation of Liberty, derived from Libertas, the goddess of freedom widely worshipped in ancient Rome, especially among emancipated slaves.

The tower was originally a dull copper color but by 1906 verdigris, caused by the oxidation of the copper covered the entire statue making it green patina. Congress authorized money for repair but there was considerable public protest against the proposed exterior painting and so only the inside paint was redone.

Brooklyn Bridge

Since opening, it has become an icon of New York City and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1964.

They designed a truss system that was six times as strong as they thought it needed to be. Because of this, the Brooklyn Bridge is still standing when many of the bridges built around the same time have vanished into history and been replaced.

Gateway Arch and Old Courthouse

The Gateway Arch reflects St. Louis role in the Westward Expansion of the United States during the nineteenth century.

The park is a memorial to Thomas Jefferson s role in opening the West, to the pioneers who helped shape its history, and to Dred Scott who sued for his freedom in the Old Courthouse. it is the world s tallest arch,[4] the tallest man-made monument in the Western Hemisphere,[6] and Missouri s tallest accessible building. Near the top of the Arch, passengers exit the tram compartment and climb a slight grade to enter the observation area. This arched deck, which is over 65 feet (20 m) long and 7 feet (2.1 m) wide,[103] can hold up to about 160 people, four trams worth[68]

Walldrug

One of the world』s most well-known tourist stops, it』s hard to believe Wall Drug Store got its start with something we wouldn』t even turn our heads at today…the promise of free ice water. The small town drugstore made its first step towards fame when it was purchased by Ted Hustead in 1931. Hustead was a Nebraska native and pharmacist who was looking for a small town with a Catholic church in which to establish his business.

Mount Rushmore

Mount Rushmore National Park was the brainchild of Doane Robinson, known as the 「Father of Mount Rushmore.」 His goal was to create an attraction that would draw people from all over the country to his state. He contacted the sculptor Gutzon Borglum. It is a sculpture carved into the granite face of Mount Rushmore, a batholith in the Black Hills in Keystone, South Dakota, United States.

Sculptor Gutzon Borglum created the sculpture s design and oversaw the project s execution from 1927-1941 with the help of his son, Lincoln Borglum. Mount Rushmore features 60-foot (18 m) sculptures of the heads of four United States presidents: George Washington (1732–1799), Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826), Theodore Roosevelt (1858–1919), and Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865).

Montana

is a state in the Western region of the United States. The state s name is derived from the Spanish word monta?a (mountain). Millions of tourists annually visit Glacier National Park, the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, and Yellowstone National Park. With an area of 147,040 square miles (380,800 km2), Montana is slightly larger than Japan. The western third of Montana contains numerous mountain ranges. The eastern half of Montana is characterized by western prairie terrain and badlands.

Yellowstone National Park

This is the world』s first national park established in 1872. This place is covered over three U.S. states. Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho. Although it is primarily in Wyoming, the park is over 2,221,766 acres.

One can marvel at a volcano rising up in hot springs, mud pots, and geysers. There are mountains, forests, and lakes to watch wildlife and witness the drama of the natural world. There are more geysers and hot springs here than anywhere else on Earth. Yellowstone is a geological smoking gun that illustrates how violent the Earth can be.

Missoula, Montana

Missoula is a city in the U.S. state of Montana. Missoula, often considered the cultural center of Montana,[62] is the location of the state s first university, and an eclectic mix of loggers, hippies, college students, sports fans, and retirees. Along with the U.S. Forest Service headquarters founded in 1908,

lumber and the university remained staples of the local economy for the next hundred years. In and around Missoula are 400 acres of parkland, 35 km of trails, and nearly 5,000 acres of open-space conservation land with adjacent Mount Jumbo home to grazing elk and mule deer during the winter.

Lake Coeur d Alene

Is a natural lake in Northern Idaho that spans 40 km. It』s is a popular tourist site for many people during the summer, offering great beaches and scenic views. During the timber industry it was used to transport lumber in Kootenai County. Now, a third of the lake is considered to be reservation to one of the federally recognized tribes, Coeur d』Alene people. This hasn t affected public access to the lake but the EPA states that the tribe can create their own water quality standards for the section they own.

The first Starbucks

Starbucks opened its first store in 1971 in the Pike Place Market in downtown Seattle. During this time, the company only sold roasted whole coffee beans and did not yet brew coffee to sell. During their first year of operation, they purchased green coffee beans from Peet s, then began buying directly from growers. Because the Market is a historic district with design guidelines, the store retains its original look. The historic buildings of Pike Place and character of the nine-acre historic district are protected. It is comprised of hundreds of farmers, craftspeople, small businesses and residents.

Space Needle

Edward F. Carlson, chairman of the 1962 World s Fair in Seattle, originally had an idea for erecting a tower with a restaurant at the World s Fair. He was inspired by a trip to the Stuttgart Tower of Germany. The Space Needle is an observation tower in Seattle, Washington, a landmark of the Pacific Northwest, and an icon of Seattle.

Once the tallest structure west of the Mississippi River,[7] it is 605 ft (184 m) high, 138 ft (42 m) wide, and weighs 9,550 tons. There is a restaurant in the observation desk called SkyCity that features Pacific Northwest cuisine. The observation deck rotates 360 degrees in exactly forty-seven minutes.
