Funny how they were playing the pistons his last game. The pacers were legit contenders that year going into the season, winning 61 the year before but then the brawl happened.

Metta would have made a huge difference that series and Reggie could have played his last game with a ring.

He absolutely will if he actually announces his last season before he finishes. Duncan pulled the ultimate Tim Duncan move by not announcing his retirement until he had actually finished so he didn"t get the same year long sendoff that Kobe got.

I wish he did tho. Kobe allowed his fans, haters, etc. to send him off showing how much we appreciated him as a basketball player. Duncan didn"t give us that luxury; he made it so we had to do it internally. He deserved that farewell tour as well.

But hey, that"s what makes Duncan who he is, and we love him for it all the same.

You need loyalty going both ways for that - from the team and the player. When the Lakers gave Kobe that massive last contract, talking heads were clowning them for overpaying, but I saw that as a reward for all his years with the franchise, and a way to guarantee that he never wears another team"s colors. The Celtics could have done that with Paul Pierce, but they sent him to the Nets. Now, they made out like bandits in that trade, to be fair, but they also didn"t show loyalty to one of the most iconic and important players in franchise history. Teams ain"t loyal either.

Dirk will stay, the Mavs are not gonna let him go.

This. Look at how the Heat handled Wade. They asked him to take pay cuts his to win championships and then when that window closes and he finally wants to cash in some chips they tell him no. That"s a shitty move.

C"mon, Riley kind of screwed Wade over. He came out of the gates in negotiations and low-balled him with a 10 million/year offer. He knew that was super disrespectful and would essentially show Wade the door. He came back with a reasonable offer at 20 million/year to save face (and that bullshit goodbye text/letter), but at that point the damage was done, and Riley knew exactly what he was doing IMO.

which is why its perfectly fine for players to not have loyalty. The team will put team interests ahead of the player (and they should). So the player will put player interests (his brand, opportunities, money, happiness, etc) ahead of the team.
