Kate left school when she was seventeen years old and went to look for work. A lot of factories needed workers, so it was not hard to find an interesting(有趣的) job. Katewent to several factories and then chose(選擇) one of them. It was near her home. Shedecided(決定) to go to work on foot.

The next morning, she went to the factory again and said to the manager(經理), 『Iwant to work here, but how much will you give me?』 『We pay you 27 pounds(英鎊) now,』 the manager answered, 『and 30 pounds afterthree months.』 Kate thought for a few seconds and then she said, 『All right, then I』ll start in threemonths.』
