我的天，你為什麼老是聽不懂歪果仁說的話？

不少烤鴨抱怨，自己努力背單詞，好好練習口語，英美劇看了無數，怎麼一和歪果仁聊天腦袋就蒙圈了呢。這種「似懂非懂」的狀態，真是令人窒息！

這究竟是為什麼呢？

其實就和中國人喜歡講俗語、諺語一樣，歪果仁同樣也愛idioms啊。大家都知道idioms這回事，然而，卻不知道那些簡單的辭彙也是idioms，有著你所不知道的含義。

比如說：「small potatoes」，額，一看就是小土豆的意思，但其實，它還有引申義：微不足道的事情/人物。

下面，小編就來盤點一下，那些最不像idioms的idioms。

An open book

形容一個人像一本打開的書一樣，毫不掩飾他的個人情況。同樣也可以用來形容物。

Sarah's an open book, so you'll know right away if she doesn't like the present you've bought her.

For a song

為了一首歌？它的意思是「非常便宜」，可以理解為買了個很貴的東西，就給人唱了一首歌作為回報。

No one else wanted it, so I picked it up for a song.

Moment of truth

見證真相的時刻到了？錯！這句話的真正意思是「關鍵時刻」 「關鍵問題」，而不是「真相是…」。

Now that all the bills are in, we've come to the moment of truth - can we afford to live here or not?

Under the wire

這個其實很好理解，「藏在電線下面」是多麼危險的行為，就是「千鈞一髮」和「臨界點」嘛，所以，這個表達的真正含義是「剛剛好」——just in time。

The files arrived just under the wire and we made the deadline.

High and dry

太高了，空氣不好，特別乾燥，該補水了……NO! 這個表達是說「面臨難以解決的問題，並且孤立無援」。

Jack told me he would be on time. But he didn』t show up. I was left high and dry and had to do all the work by myself.

Run into the ground.

很常見的表達，意思是徹底討論或是去做一件事情，還有另外一個意思，指徹底摧毀某個人或是某件事。

They've run the re-election issue into the ground.

I loaned her my car for 6 months and she ran it into the ground.
