總有背井離鄉的理由

繼一年半前給《時代周刊》（Time）設計了「融化(Meltdown)」封面後，以橘黃色刻畫特朗普已成Edel Rodriguez標誌。

這周，特朗普執政周年臨近，Time封面是這樣的。

早先，有披露特朗普白宮內幕新書Fire and Fury: Inside The Trump White House (火與怒：特朗普白宮內幕），Edel Rodriguez對書封嗤之以鼻。

當《時代周刊》創意總監D.W. Pine給他信息，要做一個關於新書和特朗普就職周年記封面。回望過去，羅德里格斯說：

「We used to live where the United States was a pretty steady country, and now you wake up every day and try to figure out where』s the next fire, where do we have to go, what do we have to try to contain,」 Rodriguez says. 「It』s sort of this President that you』re always trying to contain, like a wildfire that』s moving from one place to the other at all times.」

（過去，我們居住的美國是十分穩定的過度。如今，每天起來你想知道「下一把火」在哪，我們該何去何從，該試著遏制些什麼。而現任總統就是你想嘗試去遏制的，他像野火，隨時四處亂竄。）

羅德里格斯的橘黃色刻畫，為他贏得獎項。這周這幅也是被廣泛關注，不過他說他並未受特朗普啟發：

「I』m not inspired by [Trump] at all. The opposite — I feel that I』m in a position where I know how to make pictures that communicate well, and I don』t really see that many people visually taking him on. It』s a bit of a responsibility for me to do it.」

（我並未受特朗普啟發。正好相反，我知道如何用圖畫來交流，很少人以視覺呈現特朗普。我這麼做是責任在肩的感覺。）

羅德里格斯原籍古巴，他也道出了他背井離鄉的理由：

「For me, free speech is the reason I left my homeland,」 added Rodriguez, a Cuban-American. 「Anyone that leaves their homeland, it』s in their mind a lot, and they want to make it worthwhile. There』s a reason you left, and the reason I left was to make my work and to speak freely, and so I』ll keep on doing it.」

（於我，言論自由是我離開故土的原因。故鄉總會縈繞背井離鄉之人的腦海。而他們也想證明背井離鄉是值得的。總有離開的理由，我離開是我想創造自己的作品，且能暢所欲言，對此我將堅持下去。）
