荷蘭最大的歐洲中世紀城堡-德哈爾古堡

我們荷尼旅行的很多行程中大家都見到有這麼一個城堡的旅遊行程, 今天就來介紹一下德哈爾古堡De Haar Castle is the biggest and most luxurious castle in The Netherlands. It is one of the topEuropean historic houses. The history of the castle goes back to the 13 century.

The medieval house"De Haar" had been established in the 13thcentury on highergrounds from an arm of a side river of the river Rhein. In 1391 it is writtenabout the owner the family "de Haar", who served the Prince Bishop ofUtrecht, and had enough influence to build a home as a fortress. How it exacltylooked that time is unknown.

In the 15thcentury, the castle became property of the family "van Zuylen"bymarriage, of the daughter de Haar with Dirk van Zuylen. At that time the castlegot his characteristic 5 corners shape after it was destroyed and rebuild in 1482 because of fights and disputes between different bishops.

We take a leap to the 19thcentury. The castlefelt in heavy disrepair during the 18thand 19thcenturybecause of different wars and heavy weather circumstances. Baron Etiene vanZuylen heritaged the castle the end of the 19thcentury and decided to rebuild all of it with the help of architect Pierre Cuypers (well know architect for its Rijksmuseumand Central Station both

Amsterdam) The rebuilding took from 1892 onto 1912 and was a project unique ofits kind in Europe.

Cuypers』 grand design includednot just the architecture of the castle but also the interiors, the gardens,the chapel and even the village of Haarzuilens. Without exaggeration the wholecan be described as a creation in neogothic style which reminds us tothe medieval times . Cuypers has created a unique, special world: an enchantingoasis of harmony and peace. The Baron van Zuylen decided to make in this castlethe Family Museum.

The park andgardens surrounding De Haar Castle – covering over 135 acres of land – are wortha visit. The Rose Garden, the Roman Garden, the ponds and canals, as well asthe many bridges, romantic vistas and impressive avenues invite visitors to goon long walks or have a picnic. Each season in the park has its own charm.

That"s why wesee for that time, all kind of modern comfort , such as a heating system,electricity, streaming cold water, a Turkish Bath and even an persons elevator.Even the queen of Holland did not have that.

The completecastle consists of 200 different rooms with 25 bathrooms. Since the beginningof the 20thcentury the family uses the castle only in August and September.

At this moment the5 daughters and the granddaughters maintain this tradition. Though they are not the owners anymore: It isin the hands of the "Foundation Kasteel de Haar" which is responsiblenow to keep it open and things ongoing in and around the castle.
