Invitation for Contributions
Shenzhen International Photography Exhibition is astate-level international photography event jointly hosted by ChinaPhotographers Association and Shenzhen Federation of Literary and Art Circles.The exhibition, which is held annually, is a city-themed comprehensivephotography exhibition. It is a key project of Shenzhen Cultural Innovation andDevelopment 2020 program, and Shenzhen has been trying to forge it into aninternational exchange platform of the art of photography and a new businesscard of the city』s culture.
The 2nd ShenzhenInternational Photography Exhibition (hereinafter referred to as 「the exhibition」)will be held in Shenzhen, China in June, 2018. The exhibition is designed to promoteworldwide exchanges, integration and development of the photographic culture byshowcasing the photographic achievements and exhibiting the artisticexploration and findings made by Chinese and foreign photographers in recentyears. We now sincerely invite contributions to the exhibition from group andindividual photographers, professionals and amateurs alike, from all parts ofthe world.

III. Theme
With the theme of 「CityTemperature」, the exhibition intends to observe and understand the city onceagain through the materialization of temperature, one of the vital signs oflife, using photographs as the vehicle. Photographs have been there since the beginningof cities. They are the proper records of cities. The temperature of a city isalso felt in the images, becoming part of the permanent memory of humanity.Let』s hold up the cameras and film city-related pictures with 「temperature」 togain a better understanding of urban culture from varied angles. Bothdocumentary photographs of city-related individuals, events and stories, andartistic photographs created on the city theme are called for entry.
IV. Rules
1. Under the theme of 「CityTemperature」, the exhibition has two categories: documentary and artistic. Eachentrant can choose to participate in one or more categories, but shall notenter the same work to different categories at the same time. Either a singleor a portfolio is acceptable and will be deemed as 「one entry」. A portfolioshall consist of 4-12 pictures. Each entrant can only submit no more than 4entries (4 included) under each category. There are no restrictions on shootingequipment. All works shall be produced within the time period from 2013 to2018.
2. Contribution methods: please go to the website of the CPA (www.cpanet.cn)and click on the exhibition section. Or log on to the officialwebsite of the exhibition ( www.shenzhenphoto.com),follow the instructions to register, fill up relevant information, and uploadwork. The exhibition only accepts digital files in JPEG format with the longestside no longer than 1,024 pixels.
Every image needs oneunique caption. Captionless or 「no caption」 image will not be accepted. Eachand every image in a portfolio needs to be marked with a unique caption.Captions automatically generated by cameras or comprising only numbers orsymbols will not be accepted. There shall be no caption and information aboutthe entrant on the surface of the images, and no mention of his/her name orother ID details in the caption.
3. The photo(s) submittedshall be independently and solely completed by the entrant. Any entrant shallensure that he/she has the independent, complete, clear and undisputedcopyright for his/her works, and the works shall not infringe the legitimaterights and interests of any third party, including copyright, portraitureright, right of reputation, right of privacy, etc.
4. Photo(s) for thedocumentary category shall not be added or deleted on the original files.Appropriate adjustment on tone and brightness is acceptable, provided that anysuch editing does not compromise the authenticity and genuineness of thephoto(s). Colored photo(s) can be converted to black and white (or monochrome)completely (not partially). Each of the photo(s) shall have a brief description(no more than 100 words, including time, place and event) except for thecaption.
5. Using all or part of theimages obtained from other people』s works through any technical methods isstrictly prohibited. All the responsibilities should be on the entrant in caseany dispute occurs as a result of violation of the foregoing.
6. Photos that portray orinclude inappropriate and/or offensive contents (including but not limited tothose that may severely mislead the public cognition and those deceptive orcontrary to laws, cultural and/or public morals, traditions and practices) arestrictly prohibited and will be immediately disqualified.
7. Solemnly declared: theorganizer reserves the right to disqualify the entrant(s) as a result ofcopyright problems and other serious offenses. Violators, if already awarded,will be deprived of their certificates and the violations will be made public throughmedia. If the violations are especially serious, the entrant(s) shall be bannedfrom all future exhibitions organized by the CPA for two years or more.
8. Special note: entrantswhose works are chosen for exhibition under the documentary category shallsubmit the original files (original digital files or negatives) for expertverification and exhibition photo printing. The negatives will be returned. Theoriginal images should be files taken with cameras, mobile phones, tabletdevices or other photographic equipment without being processed by software.They shall also include complete original data such as camera information,shooting time and relevant parameters. Failure in providing the requiredoriginal files within time granted will be deemed as a waiver of eligibility.
V. Category definition
1. Documentary: thiscategory accepts works that objectively record social life, natural andecological environment, as well as folk customs. News photography, specialreport photography, social documentary photography and natural documentaryphotography, etc. are all welcomed.
2. Artistic: this categoryaccepts works that express aesthetic interest and depict the inner world.Photos may capture cultural landscape, folk customs, portrait, still life, aswell as fauna and flora. With no limits placed on creation techniques,creative, conceptual and experimental images are all acceptable.
VI. Awards
1. A total of 140 workswill be selected and put on exhibition, with 70 coming from the Documentarycategory and another 70 from the Artistic category. All the chosen entrantswill be awarded with certificates.
2. Awards for OutstandingOrganizers: a total of 10 groups and individuals who make remarkablecontributions to this exhibition will be granted with the Awards forOutstanding Organizer.
The committee reserves theright to make proper adjustment to the above awards. Vacancies resulting fromany disqualification of winners and finalists due to violations of the ruleswill not be filled.
VII. Judging
The committee will inviteprestigious Chinese and foreign photographers to form a jury and review all theentries that comply with the contribution rules one by one following theprinciples of fairness and impartiality.
VIII. Related matters
1. Photo(s) chosen by theexhibition can work as application point for the membership of the CPA.
3. All the entrants whoseworks are shown at the exhibition will receive a picture album of theexhibition.
4. Upon entering theexhibition, entrants grant to the Organizers in copyright term the license toreproduce, publish, display, perform, and distribute online your photo forpromotional events, without further compensation to entrants.
5. Submission of an entryconstitutes agreement to these rules. Any breach of the rules will lead to thedisqualification of the entrant.
6. The Organizing Committeereserves the right of final interpretation on this notice and the relatedmatters of the exhibition.
