Love it orloatheit,

school uniform is a part of growing up

for countless children around the world.

Christ』s Hospital Tudor Uniform

Christ"s Hospital in Horsham, West Sussex, in the south of England, has the oldest uniform in existence, remaining relatively unchanged since the Tudor era when it was introduced. The long blue coats, matchingknee breeches, yellow socks and white neck bands areinstantlyrecognisable, and not at all what you would expect a school uniform to look like.

Considered a very important part of the school』sheritage, they stillresemblethe long blue coats that were donated by the community to clothe the poor students who attended the charity school in Tudor times. It is thought that the uniform colours, blue and yellow, were selected because the dye was cheap and the children could be instantlydistinguished fromstudents attending paying schools.

In modern times, when surveyed about whether they wished to update the uniform to a more modern style, 95% of students at the school votedoverwhelminglyto retain the originals.

Japanese sailor outfit uniform

Japanese sailor outfit uniforms (or seifuku as they』re called in Japan) are a recognisable part of Japanese culture. From anime characters to pop groups, thesestylishuniforms have made their way out of the classrooms and into the world of fashion. Originally used in the late 19th century, the uniforms are said to be based on the suits worn by navy sailors, although it is more likely that they were inspired by the outfits worn by the children of European royals.

In the 1980s, sukeban gangs (gangs of 『delinquent』 girls) could be identified by their modified uniforms, often adding colour socks and shortening the skirt.

South Korea

Whilst South Korea school uniforms are made up of similar components as the traditional Western uniform, blazers, shirt and tie, they seem to carry a little extra flare. Taking inspiration from Japanese culture, South Korean school childrenutilisetheir uniforms as another form of self-expression, pushing the fashion boundaries into the future. Many uniform manufacturers and schools promote their garments through celebrityendorsementand fashion-forward advertising, making uniform part of South Korea』s popular culture.

Vietnam White Ao Dai Uniforms

Many school uniforms in Vietnam still require girls to wear traditional white áo dài, the long dress and loose trousers that form the country』s national dress. Often accompanied by a conical hat, the images of groups of school girls in the floating white gowns has become an iconic symbol of Vietnam』s culture. The outfits are often quite restrictive, which its supporters suggest is a good way to encourage school girls to be sedate and modest.

Pakistan

Uniforms are compulsory in the majority of schools in Pakistan and many have mandated them. Boys typically wear light-coloured shirts and trousers in brown and blue, and girls often wear a ShalwarKameez, the national dress of Pakistan in similar light colours. Some schools allow girls to wear shirts and skirts as analternative.
