沒有周董的陪伴，美國人的童年聽什麼？

新的一年，新的學期也開始啦。在祝賀各位小哥哥小姐姐新年快樂的同時，我們CSSA國際文化交流部也將再次帶給大家2018年冬季學期的語伴活動。

As we celebrate the new year, our whole new semester is starting as well. While we wish you a happy new year, we, CSSA International Cultural Exchange Department, is bringing back the Language Buddy Program for this winter quarter!

宗旨

跟我們往年的語伴活動一樣，今年活動的只要目的就是提供一個平台，給更多熱愛中國文化的外國同學更多了解中國的機會，同時也是對熱愛交友，傳播中華文化的中國同學建立一個橋樑，使大家能更好地融入留學環境。然而今年的最大的特色，就是我們將從幾個方面深入討論中美在流行文化上的差異。

As usual, we will be focusing on the cultural exchange between Chinese and American cultures. We will be creating a platform for those who are interested in the Chinese culture and want to meet new friends. By doing this, we also want to help chinese students who are studying abroad to be able to easily adapt to the new english-talking environment. The most special section of this year』s Language Buddy Program is to discuss the culture differences between China and the US by distinguishing topics.

為啥外國人天天穿秋褲拖鞋就出門了？他們的審美是怎麼樣的？他們真的很開放嗎？他們沒有周杰倫的童年都在聽什麼？跟美國小夥伴一起吃飯到底要怎麼付錢？相信作為留美的我們，肯定會經常被中美的文化差異而感到困惑和震驚。當然，沒經歷過中國文化熏陶的他們，也時常會覺得我們有很不一樣的地方。比如，我們有著像微信這樣的神器，買單打車一條龍；我們聊天離不開表情包，除了姚明館長和香菜，還有爾康學友和黑人問號；更過分的是，我們偶爾坐在地上玩狼人殺，還會被當成是什麼神秘的宗教儀式……

Why do Americans go to classes with pajamas and slippers? What are aesthetically appealing to them? Are they very 「open」? What are their childhood jam without Jay Chou? How do they split the bill when going out to eat with friends? Certainly for those who are studying abroad from China, American culture could be 「bizarre」 at first. And for Americans, Chinese culture can also be very different. For example, we have this amazing app called WeChat that can pay for bills and call cabs. We always use 「Biao Qing Bao」 (like meme) when we talk on social medias. They also misinterpreted our ways of playing games like 「Lang Ren Sha,」 which some americans questioned if it』s a religious practice.

這些由於文化差異而產生的問題，除了慢慢適應以外，最好的辦法就是當面聊聊啦！這次語伴就是你最好的機會。坐下來和美國小夥伴們，邊吃披薩邊聊天，交流各自的困惑，並跟深入的了解美國的流行文化。相信在這次豐富多彩的活動中，你會找到一個或多個跟你興趣愛好類似，聊的十分投機的外國同學。這樣不僅能鍛煉你的溝通能力，更能使得我們歷史悠久的文化得到很好的傳播。

Long story short, there are definitely great differences between the Chinese and American culture, so for us, the CSSA ICE, we decided to create a chance on campus to discuss these differences with some fun activities and great sneaks. It"s the best way to better understand them. You will definitely find new friends with similar hobbies or with same interests in a subtopic we discuss. Students will learn and appreciate both cultures more and the end of our Language Buddy Program.
