Sunday marks Lichun, also known as the "Start of Spring", the first of the 24 solar terms in Chinese traditional lunar calendar, and a time to usher in a brand new season of thriving vibrancy. CGTN has rounded up eight spring-related poems to herald the beginning of a year start. Scroll down for a refreshing breath of spring between the lines as well as an invigorating glow of aspiration and hopes for the impending lunar New Year.
The poem by Zhang Shi from the Song Dynasty (960-1279) has portrayed a mesmerizing landscape in the early spring where ice and frost were melting, plants were sprouting and lakes were rippling with the spring breezes.
Bai Pu from the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) has vivified in the verse a blossoming spring with a detailed and an exquisite line drawing of glorious sunshine, flourishing osiers as well as the boisterous birds.
The spring rain hastens roadside flowers to grow;
They undulate and fill mountains with spring.
Deep, deep along the stream I go,
And hear hundreds of orioles sing.
Flying cloud in face turns to dragon or snake.
And swiftly melts in azure sky.
Lying drunk "neath old vines, I can"t make
Out if it"s north or south by and by.
Qin Guan, a highly-acclaimed poet from the Song Dynasty (960-1279) known for his most quoted lines of love poems, has depicted a bewitching dreamland where spring is in the air and floating clouds are like wandering dragons stretching against the vast azure.
Depicting the intense sprinkles and the hazy meadow, Han Yu, one of the most distinguished poets of the Tang Dynasty (618-907), deemed as "comparable in stature to Dante, Shakespeare or Goethe" for his influence on the Chinese literature, has heralded the early spring as the most beautiful season of the year.

Spring, the sweet spring
Thomas Nashe, England
Spring, the sweet spring, is the year"s pleasant king,
Then blooms each thing, then maids dance in a ring,
Cold doth not sting, the pretty birds do sing:
Cuckoo, jug-jug, pu-we, to-witta-woo!
The palm and may make country houses gay,
Lambs frisk and play, the shepherds pipe all day,
And we hear aye birds tune this merry lay:
Cuckoo, jug-jug, pu-we, to-witta-woo!
The fields breathe sweet, the daisies kiss our feet,
Young lovers meet, old wives a-sunning sit,
In every street these tunes our ears do greet:
Cuckoo, jug-jug, pu-we, to witta-woo!
Spring, the sweet spring!

Spring
William Blake, England
Sound the flute!
Now it"s mute.
Birds delight
Day and night.
Nightingale
In the dale,
Lark in the sky,
Merrily,
Merrily, merrily to welcome in the year.
Little boy
Full of joy,
Little girl
Sweet and small.
Cock does crow,
So do you.
Merry voice,
Infant noise,
Merrily, merrily to welcome in the year.
Little lamb
Here I am
Come and lick
My white neck.
Let me pull
Your soft wool.
Let me kiss
Your soft face,
Merrily, merrily we welcome in the year.
百鳥和鳴;
真高興;
甜而嫩;
人在吟;
沁人心;
我在等;
你請來
舐我白頸;
讓我抿;
讓我吻;

Spring Quiet
Christina Georgina Rossetti, England
Gone were but the Winter,
Come were but the Spring,
I would go to a covert
Where the birds sing;
Where in the whitethorn
Singeth a thrush,
And a robin sings
In the holly-bush.
Full of fresh scents
Are the budding boughs
Arching high over
A cool green house:
Full of sweet scents,
And whispering air
Which sayeth softly:
"We spread no snare;
"Here dwell in safety,
Here dwell alone,
With a clear stream
And a mossy stone.
"Here the sun shineth
Most shadily;
Here is heard an echo
Of the far sea,
Though far off it be."

Spring is like a perhaps hand

Spring is like a perhaps hand

a window, into which people look(while
people stare
arranging and changing placing
carefully there a strange
thing and a knaown thing here)and
changing everything carefully
spring is like a perhaps
Hand in a window
(carefully to

Old things, while
people stare carefully
moving a perhaps

an inch of air there)and
without breaking anything.
