Gartner 2018對象存儲關鍵能力評估

很久沒有寫文章了,主要是這段時間感覺心被掏空了,不知要寫啥。抱歉。

對象存儲由於在公有雲大量使用,現在企業也受到影響,很多企業也利用對象存儲來保存海量的需要長期保存的數據,來降低存儲的成本。隨著數據的爆炸增長,預計對象存儲在企業市場會發揮越來越大的作用。

Gartner的對象存儲關鍵能力報告在2017年沒有更新,在2018年初,終於更新了一版,我第一時間拿到這份報告,把它分享給大家(文後鏈接)。這份報告是Hitachi Vantara購買了reprint許可權分享的,我只不過是借花獻佛而已。

如果你不願意讀英文報告,可以簡單看我下面的關鍵點評。

Gartner報告首先總結的幾個關鍵發現,我用大白話給大家強調三個大家要特別注意的:

1、對象存儲採用的API方式訪問,但企業裡面支持對象API的應用太少,因此,文件訪問也必不可少。也就是你的對象存儲最好同時支持文件。

2、公有雲裡面分析場景經常用對象存儲,但在企業裡面並不同。也就是分析場景的優先順序沒有那麼高。

3、對象存儲都宣傳兼容S3介面,但是基本沒有100%兼容的,特別是在安全特性方面,大家不要被廠商忽悠了。

然後報告給出5個場景各家的排名。

分析場景,IBM COS(收購的Cleversafe),歐洲的Scality Ring和Hitachi Vantanra HCP是TOP3。我們看到開源的SUSE Enterprise Storage(其實也是Ceph)和Red Hat Ceph得分不高,在中下位置。

歸檔場景,TOP3沒有變化。

備份場景,TOP3還是沒有變化。

內容分發,前面怎麼還是這三家,暈。

最後的雲存儲,TOP3還是千年老三。

也就是說,所有的場景,前三名都是一樣的。這個有點太缺少變化了吧。這麼來看,IBM收購CleverSafe還真值了。

然後就是13個廠商產品的架構特點:

Caringo Swarm

Notable Product Traits:

Metadata:Metadata storage in-line with objects.

File Protocols:NFSv4 implemented as native, platform-level protocol. SMB available through FileFly, an OEM of Moonwalk"s data management product.

Hybrid Cloud Storage:Simple tiering of data to Microsoft Azure blob storage.

Cloudian HyperStore

Notable Product Traits:

Metadata:Metadata storage using ApacheCassandra.

File Protocols:No native support for NFS or SMB.

Hybrid Cloud Storage:Simple tiering of data to S3-compatible targets.

DDN WOS

Notable Product Traits:

Metadata:Metadata storage for DDN"s S3 API using Apache Hbase. Metadata storage for the native WOS API stored in-line with objects.

File Protocols:NFS and SMB offered through Lustre or the WOS bridge.

Hybrid Cloud Storage:Simple tiering of data to S3-compatible targets.

Dell EMC ECS

Notable Product Traits:

Metadata:Metadata storage using a company-developed, distributed key/value store.

File Protocols:NFSv4 implemented as native, platform-level protocol.

Hybrid Cloud Storage:Deployment includes private cloud instantiations in Virtustream data centers.

HGST ActiveScale

Notable Product Traits:

Metadata:Distributed key/value store using LMDB, a B-tree-style database.

File Protocols:No native support for NFS or SMB.

Hybrid Cloud Storage:No notable support for hybrid cloud storage.

Hitachi Vantara HCP

Notable Product Traits:

Metadata:Metadata storage using a company-developed, distributed key/value store.

File Protocols:NFSv4 and SMBv3 implemented as native, platform-level protocols.

Hybrid Cloud Storage:Simple tiering of data to S3-compatible targets.

Huawei FusionStorage

Notable Product Traits:

Metadata:Metadata storage using a peer-to-peer architecture.

File Protocols:NFSv3, NFSv4, SMBv2 and SMBv3 implemented as native, platform-level protocols.

Hybrid Cloud Storage:Simple tiering of data to S3-compatible targets.

IBM COS

Notable Product Traits:

Metadata:Company-developed, distributed key/value store.

File Protocols:LimitedNFSv3 support currently lacking support for features, such as hard links. Requires use of an external data store used rather than the native metadata store.

Hybrid Cloud Storage:Deployment options include private cloud instantiations in IBM data centers.

NetApp StorageGRID Webscale

Notable Product Traits:

Metadata:Metadata storage using ApacheCassandra.

File Protocols:No native support for NFS or SMB; relies on company-developed gateway.

Hybrid Cloud Storage:Simple tiering of data to S3-compatible targets.

Red Hat Ceph

Notable Product Traits:

Metadata:All metadata stored in-line with objects.

File Protocols:No native support for SMB. Native support for NFSv3 and NFSv4.

Hybrid Cloud Storage:No notable support for hybrid cloud storage.

Scality Ring

Notable Product Traits:

Metadata:Metadata storage using LevelDB.

File Protocols:NFSv3, SMBv2 and SMBv3 implemented as native, platform-level protocols.

Hybrid Cloud Storage:Simple tiering of data to S3-compatible targets.

SUSE Enterprise Storage

Notable Product Traits:

Metadata:All metadata stored in-line with objects.

File Protocols:No native support for SMB. Native support for NFSv3 and NFSv4 (tech preview).

Hybrid Cloud Storage:No notable support for hybrid cloud storage.

SwiftStack Object Storage

Notable Product Traits:

Metadata:Metadata storage using file-system-extended attributes or alongside object itself.

File Protocols:NFSv3, SMBv1, SMBv2 and SMBv3 (limited) implemented as native, platform-level protocols.

Hybrid Cloud Storage:Bidirectional synchronization of data to S3-compatible targets.

SUSE是今年新增加的廠商。入圍標準裡面有一條,如果採用開源軟體,廠商必須是TOP10代碼貢獻者。

下面是各個場景對8大關鍵能力的權重。我們看到,歸檔和備份比較看重Value,即價格。

各家關鍵能力得分情況,從Value來看,Hitachi、NetApp和Scality三家好像比較便宜,性價比高。當然,IBM的單項冠軍最多。

上面兩個表一相乘,就是各個場景的得分。IBM在所有場景中都是第一。
