法王如意寶：學佛不要鸚鵡學舌，但有太多人中招

彩虹再美，也不值得追尋

No Rainbow Is Worth Chasing After, No Matter How Beautiful

世上總有一些人，自己沒有任何實踐經驗，嘴上卻講得口若懸河、滔滔不絕，

There are always people in the world who do not have any practical experience themselves but can spout an endless flow of eloquent words,

把不明真相的人們唬得一愣一愣的。

amazing and beguiling those who do not know the truth.

就像從沒去過印度菩提迦耶的人，

It is like someone who has never been to Bodh Gaya in India but,

僅憑著從電視或照片得來的信息，

using facts gleaned from television or photographs,

就開始對大眾講述菩提迦耶的詳細狀況。

starts to give a detailed description of Bodh Gaya to others.

如是，他講的肯定抓不住要點，也不值得人們信賴。

What such a person says cannot possibly convey the essence of the place, nor is it trustworthy.

而一個人如果去過菩提迦耶，那即使他不擅長表達，

But if a person has been to Bodh Gaya, then even if she were not an eloquent speaker,

但他所說的每一句話，相信也會與實際情況相差不多。

I would trust that every sentence she says is quite accurate.

傳講佛法也是如此，

Spreading the Buddhadharma is similar to this.

假如稍微有一點修證和經驗，就不會把眾生引入邪道。

If teachers have even a little experience and realization through practice, they will not lead living beings down a wrong path.

否則，像鸚鵡學舌一樣，只是對書本上的東西照本宣科，

Otherwise, like a mimicking parrot, they merely echo what the books say,

那聽聞者得不到真實的利益。

and their listeners do not receive any true benefit.

華智仁波切也說：「自己若沒有絲毫體會與證悟，為他人講經說法，意義並不大。」

Patrul Rinpoche also said,「If one has not the slightest personal understanding or realization, then reading the sutras and teaching the Dharma to others has little point.」

天邊美麗的彩虹，傳說是天人的彎弓，

According to legend, the beautiful rainbows in the sky are the bows of the gods.

可當我們去尋覓它時，卻了無所得。

But when we seek them, we gain nothing.

同樣，凡夫的花言巧語，儘管與其他凡夫的心態非常相應，聽起來也好像擲地有聲、引人入勝，

Similarly, the flowery and clever words of an ordinary being may fit well with the mind-set of other ordinary beings, sounding sonorous and alluring;

但因為沒有一點真修實證，並不會帶來什麼「營養」。

yet, as they contain not an iota of true practice or realization, they will not bring much nourishment.

只有真正證悟了心性的修行人，他們所傳講的佛法，才能正確無誤地引導眾生走向解脫！

Only the Buddhadharma taught by practitioners who have truly realized the nature of the mind can unerringly guide living beings toward liberation!
