Somewhere in the woods, there was a little house. It was Anna and Peter』s home.
Anna and Peter were an oldcouple. They had no children. That made them feel sad andlonelysometimes.
One winter day, it snowed and snowed and snowed.
When it stopped snowing, Anna and Peter went out. They saw happy children dancing around a big snowman.
「Let』s build a snowman too,」 said Peter.
「Why not?」 said Anna.
The snow was nice and white. Anna and Peter felt like children themselves. They started to build a snowman.
First they made the body. Next the head. Then the mouth, the nose and the eyes.
Soon it was done. They looked at their little snowman. They laughed and danced like children. Suddenly they stopped.
What hadhappened to their snowman?
Its eyes became blue, its lipsrosy. It wasno longera snowman. Itturnedintoa beautiful little girl!
Anna looked at Peter. Peter looked at Anna. They thought they were dreaming. But they weren』t.
The little girl hugged and kissed them. She called them 「Little Father」 and 「Little Mother」.
「Anna!」
「Peter!」
「We have a little girl! We made her out of snow. We will call her Snow Girl.」
That night, they watched Snow Girl fall fast asleep in their house. They cried with joy.
Every day after that, Snow Girl was there with them. She could sing as winter birds do. She could dance as snowflakes do. She made Anna and Peter so happy.
Then, there came the lovely spring.
Snow Girl grewlessand less happy.
「I miss the white snow so much,」 she said sadly.
「The snow will come again,」 said Anna.
「Let』s go enjoy the beautiful flowers,」 said Peter.
The three of them went out. The warm wind blew. Sunlight danced. Snow Girltrembled like a leaf.
Anna and Peter stood still. Their snow child grew smaller and smaller. Tears ran on her face. Soon, there was onlydewon the grass.
Oneteardropfell into a flower. Peter picked it and gently handed it to Anna.
They bothunderstood. Their darling girl was made of snow. And shemelted away in the warm sun.

森林的角落裡，有一座小房子。房子里，住著安娜和彼得。
安娜和彼得上了年紀，他們夫婦沒有孩子，偶爾會因此而覺得傷心又孤獨。
一個冬日，雪下呀下呀下個沒完。
等到雪停了，安娜和彼得出了家門，他們瞧見一群孩子圍著一個大大的雪人快樂地跳舞。
「我們也來堆個雪人吧！」彼得提議。
「好啊！」安娜回答。
雪白白的，漂亮極了。安娜和彼得覺得他們彷彿又變成了孩子。他倆開始堆起雪人。
他們先做好雪人的身體，又做好雪人的腦袋，接下來做出嘴巴、鼻子和眼睛。
雪人堆好啦。安娜和彼得看著他們的小雪人，像孩子似的跳呀笑呀。突然，安娜和彼得停下來。
他們的雪人怎麼了？
雪人的眼睛變成了藍色，嘴唇粉嘟嘟。雪人不再是雪人了，它變成了一個好看的小姑娘！
安娜看看彼得。彼得看看安娜。他們興許是在做夢？可那不是夢。
小姑娘抱抱彼得，親親安娜，喚他們「小爸爸」和「小媽媽」。
「安娜！」
「彼得！」
「我們終於有了一個小姑娘！她是雪做的，以後就叫『雪姑娘』吧。」
當夜，安娜和彼得眼睛眨也不眨，注視著雪姑娘在他們的小房子里安然入睡。他們開心地流下了眼淚。
之後的每一天，雪姑娘都陪著安娜和彼得。她像冬日小鳥那般唱起歌兒，像雪花那般翩翩起舞。她帶給安娜和彼得那麼多的快樂。
接著，可愛的春天來了。
雪姑娘卻一天天的，越來越不開心。
「我好想念潔白的雪。」她傷心地說。
「雪還會再來的。」安娜安慰雪姑娘。
「我們出去看看漂亮的花吧。」彼得也想讓雪姑娘開心。
他們三人出了家門。和煦的風吹著。春日陽光跳著舞。雪姑娘像葉子一樣顫抖不已。
安娜和彼得靜靜站著。他們的雪姑娘越來越小，臉上淌著淚珠兒。很快，草地上就只剩下閃著光的露珠。
一滴眼淚，落在花心裡。彼得摘下那朵花，輕輕遞給安娜。
他們知道，他們心愛的小姑娘是雪做的，她融化在了溫暖的陽光下。
