「山水」兼有主題和形式,是中國美學獨有的藝術範疇。自南北朝名士謝靈運起,「山水」成為獨立的審美對象。此詩由出行遊樂起筆,描摹永嘉山水景緻,並借謝公的精神喚起人們的文化記憶。山水代表一個人的襟懷,描摹中國山水的詩與畫結合起來,呈現出一種「詩中有畫,畫中有詩「的境界。

「Shanshui(Landscape)」 is a particular art category of Chinese aesthetics, unified both theme andform. Started fromXie Lingyun, famous literatus in the Northern andSouthern Dynasty (A.D. 420-589), 「Shanshui」 became independent aestheticobject. The poem started from the tour and depicted the landscape of Yongjiaand recalls people』s cultural memory byXie Lingyun』s spirit. 「Shanshui」 represents one』s mind.TheShanshuipoem combines withthe painting naturally, showing a state that there is a painting in the poem,and a poem in the painting.

I was travellingby ship and then on foot, enjoying the beautiful sceneries on the way.

Delicate fragrance of orchid spread far and wide, bamboo surrounded and white cloud flewaway.

Running springreflected colored light, elegant stone sang in four tones.

Thanks to SirXie, his works make the landscape more charming.

望兄亭 the Brother Pavilion

家族是中國古代社會生活的基本單位,其中顯示出來的倫常也反映了民間生活的基本形態。此詩描述了一幅兄弟情誼的畫面,並讚頌了對當地淳樸的民風和世外桃源般的景色。凝視一張作品,走近一段兄友弟恭的情感,也就看到了那個村落,看到了社會生活的細節,看到了文明的根。

Family is the basic unit of society in ancient China. Ethics of family show thegeneral form of people』s life. The poem described a brotherhood, commended thesimple and pure folk custom and natural beauty of the village. Enjoying thepainting and knowing the brotherhood by the poem, we would see that village andfind the details of social life and the root of civilization.

古村·望兄亭

村同古柏古,人比清水清。

弟望送弟閣,兄送望兄亭。

誰又點燈去?遠山明月生。

Ancient Village·theBrother Pavilion

Expecting to find a way to paradise, I paid a visit to Nanxijiang River in autumn.

There is a village as old as ancient cypresses planted here and people are as pure ascrystal clear water.

The younger brother bid a farewell to the elder brother and the elder brother saw off the younger one in pavilions.

Who lighted up the lamp, when the moon climbs over the distant mountains?

沈園柳老 Willow in Shenyuan Garden

沈園位於中國紹興,自古是文人名流踏青之地,園中記載了宋代詩人陸遊與其前妻唐婉的悲情離恨。夏蕙瑛訪沈園,對此深有觸動,感懷題詩。當青春已逝,古稀回望少年,遺憾傷感,百味雜陳。這是中國式的青春之歌,帶著含蓄又深刻的悲劇色彩,也閃爍著東方的古典之美。

Shenyuan Garden locates in Shaoxing City, China. It has been a popular garden forliterati and celebrities to have their spring outings inancient times. The garden recorded a sad love story of Lu You, a great poet inthe Song Dynasty (A.D. 960-1279) and his ex-wife Tang Wan, and witnessed theirsorrow, separation and grief. When Xia Huiying visited Shenyuan Garden, she wasdeeply touched by the story and wrote a poem to express her feelings. Afteryouth is gone, people recall their past youth with mixed, painful, sorrowful,or regretful feelings. This is a Chinese youth song with a deep and implicitspirit of tragedy. It also reflects Eastern classical aesthetics.

幽徑小行探放翁,依依垂柳滿園空。

多情不願詩魂散,心緒綿綿鎖此中。

The Seven-CharacterPoem·Memories of the Past at Shenyuan Garden

I walked on thepath of the garden to look for Lu You,

but no one isthere except the weeping willows.

The romanticpoet』s soul is not willing to disappear,

it was locked inthe garden, exuded a profound sense of sorrow.

瑞陶山 Ruitao Mountain

進謂出仕,退稱隱居,中國的文人士大夫大約都有這兩種心情,這也是人們面對種種境遇之時的矛盾統一體。南北朝名士陶弘景為歷史上著名的「山中宰相」。此詩承繼陶詩名句「嶺上多白雲」,同道中人若能體悟陶公長嘯之意,即可享有嶺上白雲之樂,是進也是退。

In Chinese, advance means to be an official; retreat means to live in seclusion.Chinese literati and scholar-officials all had pursued these two types ofopposite life. It is also a natural contradictory entity when people meetdifferent circumstances. Tao Hongjing was a famous literatus in the Southernand Northern Dynasty (A.D. 420-589), and honored as 「Chancellor in the mountain」. Based on one famous line in Tao』s poem 「Mountains are covered by lots ofclouds」, the poem stated that if you could understand the meaning of Sir Tao』s prolongedyelling, you may meet him in the mountain surrounded by clouds.It is advance but also retreat.

Phoenix flyingin the vast sky goes back to the high tree she lives,

lying dragongets up from deep pond he hides.

If you couldunderstand the meaning of Sir Tao』s prolonged yelling,

you may meet him in the mountain surrounded byclouds.

老梅面壁 PlumTree in Sui Dynasty

一首詩道出幾種命運,個人的命運、老梅的命運、王朝的命運。國清寺取「寺若成,國即清」之意,是在隋煬帝的關照下建成的。寺中老梅為隋代高僧章安灌頂大師手植,距今1300多年。生命是一種歷程,一切終將過去。老梅是覺悟的,無論亂世還是盛世,沉眠還是盛開,它都會自然而平淡。

The fate of people, old plum tree and the dynasty were all written in the poem. Themeaning of Guoqing Temple is that the country will become clean after thetemple is built. Emperor Yang in the Sui Dynasty (A.D. 581-618) paid close attention to the construction of thetemple. The old plum tree was planted by abhiseca master Zhang An monk 1300 years ago. Life is a journey. Everything would lead to an end. Old plum tree isfully conscious of itself. No matter it is in troubled time or in prosperoustime, sleeping or blooming, the old plum tree will always face the wall naturally and peacefully.

老梅面壁終何悟,亂世沉眠盛世開。

Sounds of belland drum seem like coming from the place remote from life.

What the plumtree learned by facing to the ancient wall?

蘭亭 Orchid Pavilion

蘭亭是書法藝術的聖地。東晉大書法家王羲之與當時四十一位名流貴族在蘭亭修禊,作《蘭亭集序》並書,被後世譽為「天下第一行書」。後來熱愛書法的追夢者,將此視為書法之源,代代苦學,以求攀上書法高峰。「我筆無塵」是詩人的心志,尋求字與人格的統一,成就妙不可言的藝術。

Orchid Pavilion is the holy land of Chinese calligraphy. Wang Xizhi, the greatcalligrapher in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (A.D. 317-420), together with 41literati and celebrities, gathered at Orchid Pavilion for celebrating thewaterside purification festival. He createdOrchid Pavilion Prefaceandwrote it down, which is regarded as「the best running script calligraphy in the world」. Those followers who lovecalligraphy consideredOrchid Pavilion Prefaceas the origin of Chinesecalligraphy. They study hard in order to climb on the peak of calligraphy. Thepoet』s will is tomake my works extraordinarilyrefined,seek to unify calligraphy and personality to achieve wonderfulart.

處處洛陽紅 Luoyang Red Peony

中國古代文人士大夫追求人格高尚和精神獨立。寵辱不驚,這是大境界。相傳唐朝武后曾令百花於隆冬季節盛開,唯牡丹不從,於是被連根拔起,遺落邙山。此詩描繪牡丹品性,不隨波逐流,又不妄自菲薄,一時的遭難磨鍊了身心意志,如今花開處處,九州大地上的人也因此記住了它的品格。

Chinese literati and scholar-officials had pursued noble personality and independentspirit in ancient times. It is a great state of mind to remain indifferentwhether granted favors or subjected to humiliation. According to legend, onceEmpress Wu of Tang Dynasty (A.D.618-907) gave an order to all sorts of flowersto blossom in winter but only peony did not obey. Then, peony was uprooted andabandoned in Mangshan Mountain. The poem portrayed peony』s character, neitherfollowing the crowd nor belittling herself. The temporary tribulation she had sufferedstrengthened her will and body. Therefore, peonies are now blossomingeverywhere in China and people remember her character.

七律·洛陽紅

牡丹本是尋常色,相伴三春百卉中。

素罐月移曾獨立,名園日罩亦千叢。

受讒忽賜邙山雪,守性不隨皇苑風。

貶斥從來多礪志,九州處處洛陽紅。

The Seven-CharacterVerse·VisitLuoyang Peony

Xia Huiying

Peony used to be one of many ordinary flowersblooming in spring.

Whether in a shabby pot or in a famous garden, shealways blossomed gorgeously.

Although deposed to Mangshan Mountain by Empress Wuof Tang Dynasty, she still kept her nature.

People were inspired by her fortitude and transplantedpeony all over China.

風雨天一閣圖 Tianyi Pavilion in the Storm

傳承是對歷史的敬重,有記憶的民族才得以深談文化。天一閣為明代藏書樓,位於中國寧波,是文化流傳艱難的象徵。夏蕙瑛訪天一閣,深感於其凄愴風雨的保存歷程,創作《風雨天一閣圖》,並題跋記錄自己的創作過程。不經意間天一閣已流傳數百年,正如此畫漫筆而成,卻現天一閣真貌。

Inheritanceis a respect to history.Anation that has memories can go deeper on talking about its culture. TianyiPavilion is a library in Ming Dynasty (A.D.1368-1644), which locates in NingboCity, China. It symbolizes the hardship of inherited culture. Xia Huiyingvisited Tianyi Pavilion and was deeply touched by its hard and sorrowfuljourney of preservation. Then she paintedTianyi Pavilion in the stormandwrote an inscription to record her creative process. Tianyi Pavilion hasalready gone through hundreds of years without realizing it just as thepainting was completed by rambling strokes but shows the true face of TianyiPavilion unconsciously.

此圖漫筆而成,本為初稿。附壁上觀其日久,幡然體悟,此乃天一閣真貌,風雨凄兮,不經意間數百年矣。

The painting was completed by rambling strokes as first draft originally. After hanging it on the wall and looking at it for many days, I suddenly realizedthat it was the true face of Tianyi Pavilion. In a bleak wind and rain, the pavilion has already gone through hundreds of years without realizing it.

五彩亞龍灣 Colorful Yalong Bay

中國人之聚,酒過三巡,呼朋引伴,人聲鼎沸,是傳統,是民俗,是活的文化。夏蕙瑛與友人齊聚三亞過春節,大年初一,馬雲興而書錄夏蕙瑛記三亞之行五律詩。詩中記述海天美景與畫家開闊心境,歡聚時刻,高朋滿座,推杯換盞。難得今日新年之聚,敘友人之情,萬金難換,醉了也值得。

The gathering in Chinese style is to bring friends together, drinking a lot andchatting aloud. It is a tradition, folk custom and living culture. Xia Huiying,together with her friends, celebrated the Chinese Lunar New Year in Sanya. On the first day of the Chinese Lunar NewYear, Jacky Ma was cheery and wrote Xia Huiying』s poemThe Five-CharacterVerse·ATrip to Sanyaon a book. The poem described the beauty of the seaand sky and the painter』s open mind. It also depicted themoment the painter and friends got together, drinking and toasting. It wasprecious for friends to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year together to renewtheir friendship, and it was worth to be drunk.

I always have adream to visit the Southern China, finally I flew thousands of miles to make itcome true.

I looked at theblue sky and imagined myself to be among sea whitecap.

Many friendsgathered together, greeting, chatting and smiling.

We celebrateduntil we were drunk, what priceless leisure time.

本次展覽的九個主題均出自夏蕙瑛「人文幽香」藝術實踐,「人文幽香」是展示中國文化本質和特徵的大主題,以包容謙遜的民族格調傳遞文化深意。

「人文幽香」藝術實踐包含繪畫、書法、文學、行為等一系列文化藝術形式,號召公眾參與,探求中國文化本質,分主題呈現。

A delicate fragrance of cultureart practice calls on public participation to explore the nature ofChinese art. The project is presented by different themes and a series of culture and art forms including painting, calligraphy, literature, behavior ,etc.
