1. 藍色時期1901-1904

1900年10月和好友卡薩吉瑪斯一起到巴黎，一年後卡薩吉瑪斯為情自殺，巴黎的這個時期對20歲的畢加索來說，成了一座孤獨之城，沒有了朋友，沒有錢，落魄蒙馬特！暗沉的、悲傷的藍色，既是出於對卡薩吉瑪斯的憑弔和追憶，同時，藍色也是一種姿態，是他在世紀交替的巴黎的姿態。

1881年的畫家沙龍里馬奈的藍色引發軒然大波，反對派由此給印象派取名「靛藍癖」，小說家於斯曼冷嘲熱諷：「這群人的眼睛患了偏執症，塞尚是個視網膜壞掉的人。」從此，藍色成了繪畫革命的旗幡——青色，深藍，紫藍，天青，深深淺淺的藍色陣營里，畢加索於1901年加入其中，他讓自己站到馬奈、塞尚和梵高的陣營里。
