睡前故事：The magic ring 失而復得的魔法戒指！

啊~魔法戒指是不是每個小朋友都想要的寶貝~

可以變出漂亮的裙子，可以變出好吃的零食……

在這個繪本故事裡，

The magic ring是怎麼來的？

又變出了什麼神奇的東西呢？

Josh and Kip are on the shore.

Josh和Kip坐在海邊的沙灘上，

They watch the tide come in.

看著潮汐湧來。

They』re stranded on an island.

他們被困在了一個島上。

Josh is sad and he is thin.

瘦弱的Josh很傷心。

on the shore 在沙灘上

tide 浪潮，潮汐

strand 擱淺，滯留，陷於困境；be stranded 被困住

sad 悲傷的

thin 瘦的

There』s something lying in the sand.

沙灘上有一個東西。

Josh calls out to his pup.

Josh把他的小狗叫了過來。

「Is that a big fat fish, Kip?」

Kip，這是一條大肥魚嗎？

「Be quick then, dig it up!」

快！快把它挖出來！

lie 躺；lying是lie的ing形式

●There was a child lying on the ground.地上躺著一個小孩

call out to 呼喊

pup=puppy 小狗

big 大的

fat 肥胖的

fish 魚

dig it up 把它挖出來

They hope it will be good to eat.

他們希望這條魚味道不錯。

Kip gives his tail a wag.

Kip搖了搖它的尾巴。

No such luck.

可惜他們沒有這樣的好運氣。

It is a ring.

那是一個戒指。

Let』s rub it with this bag.

Josh說「讓我們用這個袋子擦擦它吧。」

be good to eat 吃起來不錯，好吃

tail 尾巴

wag 搖動

gives his tail a wag=wag his tail 搖尾巴

rub 擦拭

with 用……

Josh sighs, 「It』s very pretty…」

擦乾淨之後，Josh不禁感嘆到：「真是枚漂亮的戒指。」

But I wish I had a fish.

但是我還是希望我能有一條魚。

A flash of light, a cloud of stars-

忽然，閃過一道亮光和一些星星。

A big fish on a dish!

就在這時，盤子里出現了一條大魚！

「Hooray, this ring is magic!」

萬歲！原來這是一枚有魔力的戒指！

Josh cheers and grins at Kip.

Josh歡呼起來，並對著Kip笑了起來。

Chin up, Kip. I am in luck.

Kip，開心一點，好運來了。

I wish I had a ship.

我希望我有一艘船。

sigh 嘆氣，感嘆

pretty 極好的

a cloud of 一群

dish 盤子

grin 露齒笑

I am in luck 我運氣來了

I wish I had……我希望我有……（用had而不是have，表示假如有什麼，虛擬語氣）

Now Josh and Kip are sailing home,

於是Josh和Kip準備搭船回家，

But soon the wind grows shrill.

但是風越來越大，呼呼地刮著，

「I wish I had a coat,」 says Josh.

這時Josh說：「我希望我能有一件大衣。」

I will get a chill.

不然我可能會感冒的。

sail 航行

soon 不久，漸漸地

grow shrill 變得刺耳，強烈

get a chill 感冒，身子發冷；chill 寒冷

Then comes the most enormous crash.

突然，船被重重的撞了一下。

It gives them such a shock.

Josh和Kip嚇了一跳。

They slip and slide along the deck.

他們滑到了甲板上。

The ship has hit a rock.

船撞到了一塊岩石。

enormous crash 嚴重的撞擊

shock 震驚，驚嚇

slip=slide 滑到，滑行

along the deck 沿著甲班

hit 擊打，撞擊

The magic ring goes flying,

魔法戒指飛了起來，

And Josh falls in the sea.

然後Josh掉到了海里。

NO!

哦，不！

「Hop in quick, Kip.

Kip，快跳下來。

Get it back for me!」

去把戒指拿回來！

fly 飛行，飛翔

fall 掉落

hop 單腳跳，跳躍

The ring is lost.

戒指不見了。

The ship has sunk.

船也沉入了海底。

How gloomy can things get?

事情怎麼會變得這麼糟糕呢？

Then just in time, they hear a cry:

就在這時，他們聽到了一個聲音。

Hang on to this net!

抓住這個網！

something is lost.什麼東西不見了。

sink 沉下去，淹沒；過去時sank，過去分詞sunk

gloomy 黑暗的，令人沮喪的

cry 叫喊

hang on 緊緊抓住，堅持住

Now Josh and Kip are safe on board,

現在Josh和Kip安全了。

And here』s a funny thing-

好玩的事情來了—

A fish is in the net as well…

還有魚在網裡，

And in the fish- the ring!

而剛剛丟失的戒指就在魚肚子里！
