In the 1950s, a female swimming athlete set a goal for herself.
二十世紀五十年代，一位女游泳運動員給自己定了一個目標。
She decided to swim across the English Channel before she retired.
她要在退役之前橫渡英吉利海峽。
If she could make it, she would be the first person in the world who did it.
如果她成功做到的話，那她將是世界上的第一任。
On that day, she jumped into the sea without any hesitation and swam towards the oppostie bank.
到了那一天，她毅然決然地跳進了大海，向海峽對岸游去。
In the journey, she faced heavy fog, heavy rain and heavy waves. Though she was tired, she till carried on swimming.
But in the end, she gave up.
在途中，她遇上了大霧，遇上了大雨，還遇上了洶湧的大浪，雖然很累，但她依然堅持向前游。但是最後，她還是放棄了。
And what she didn』t know at the moment she gave up was that the opposite bank was only 1 mile away.
而在她放棄的時候，她所不知道的是：她離對岸只有一英里了。
Later people had asked her about the reason. And she said,」 The reason why I gave up is that I could not see the destination which I was so closed to reach.」
事後有人問她放棄的原因，她說：「我之所以放棄，是因為我看不到即將到達的目標。」

Too many success stories have been lecturing us about courage and persistence.
有太多成功的故事都在強調勇氣和堅持。
But they never told us where to find courage and persistence.
然而，它們卻從不告訴你勇氣和堅持從哪裡來。
You can only have courage when you know where your goal is.
只有當你知道目標在哪的時候，你才能真正有勇氣，才能真正做到堅持。
And that』s because only when you know where your goal is can you prepare yourself well mentally.
因為只有當你知道目標在哪的時候你才能做好心理準備。
Courage and persistence never fall from the sky.
堅持和勇氣從來都不是天上掉下來的美好品質。
They come from weighing between input and output.
它們來自一對投入和產出的權衡。
A life without goals is like a ship without a compass. It goes nowhere.
沒有目標的人數，就像沒有羅盤的船，那也去不了。
There is no courage or persistence in a life without goals.
在一個沒有目標的人生里，根本沒有所謂的勇氣與堅持。
