What surprised me after landing in China 降落在中國後我得到了什麼樣的驚喜

Chinais one of the fascinating and the faster developing countries, which is full of colors, nature, tradition, food and technologies. Here, we see the skyscrapers and poor village life at the same time. People from around the world visiting China for business, tours to explore and learn about the hidden truth behind it』s success & rapid development. When, I came to China its was quite surprising for me, as I had very much misconceptions about its people and culture. You know, everyone around us has different mentality and not everyone can adjust everywhere, its all game of mind and your personal behavior towards people. I always believe that 「the way people treat you is the reflection how you treat other people」. Actually I never believed what China has been described and wanted to see it by myself.

中國，作為一個迷人並且發展較快的國家，充滿了其特有的色彩、個性、傳統、食品和技術。在這裡，我們能同時看到摩天大樓和貧窮的鄉村生活。來自世界各地的人們因私或因商來到了中國，去探索和了解成功和快速發展的真相的背後。當我來到中國時，我很驚訝，因為我曾經對它的人民和文化有非常多的誤解。你知道，我們周圍的每個人都有不同的心態，並不是每個人都能適應任何地方，一切都靠的是心態及你用怎樣的行為對待他人。我總是認為「從人們對待你的方式能看出你如何對待別人」。實際上我從未真正相信人們口中所描述的中國，我想親眼看一看中國到底是怎樣的。

Itwas September 2013, morning at 8:00 I landed in Beijing, I was completely clueless about how to communicate with people asking directions or any kind of guidance, even the sign boards were also in Chinese language. The weather was quiet hot and as I landed I faced huge crowd of people without any directions lolz. People passing through or coming from the front all were busy in phones and dodging with each other. Anyway somehow I finally got out from the airport where again I saw a very very very long que of people, I thought there is someone selling ice-cream hah, it was que waiting for only taxi – oh my gosh I have to wait more for an hour wtf. Oh yes, I got the Taxi and showed the Chinese address that I had snapshot in my phone to the taxi driver, said 「Hao」 and I got idea he said 「OK」. He played some kind of Chinese Opera music which was really amazing in the start but as taxi stuck on the road it was becoming annoying :-D. It took me almost 1.5 hour to get to 「Sanlitun」 where I had my first meeting with some of my office staff.

那是2013年9月，早上8點，我降落在北京。我完全不知道如何與別人溝通，如何詢問方向或得到任何指導，甚至連標誌牌也全部是中文。當時天氣很熱，我著陸後面對著茫茫人海，沒有任何方向。大笑。忙碌的人們一個一個從我面前經過，玩著手機，互相躲閃。不管怎麼說，我終於從機場出來了，但是我又看到了一個非常非常長的隊，我以為有人賣冰淇淋哈，但那其實只是等待計程車的隊伍——噢，天哪，我得再等一個小時。噢好了，我終於坐上了計程車，把我存在手機上的地址快照告訴計程車司機，他說「Hao」，我大概猜出他的意思是說「好的」。車上收音機放著一種類似戲曲的音樂，一開始真是令人驚嘆，但當計程車堵在路上時，它開始變得有些煩人了：-D。我花了將近一個半小時才到達「三里屯」，在那裡我初次見到了我的一些同事們。

Theycould see, how f**ked up I am looking after this long journey, but they were honestly very polite and treated me like I was a KING. One thing which are very strange is they offered me 「Warm Water」, what WARM WATER? no I used to drink very cold. I could see how I am going to survive here in future. Anyway, now I have to live here for a while I thought and drunk that water as medicine. I met all the staff and had a short talk about the current technology situation, and whatever I could predict etc. After that, one of Chinese female colleague who was very kind and friendly offered me to drop at my living place. I was happy that I can have rest now as I was really messed up after this long travel, traffic, time & pollution. Oh 「Pollution」 Yes, it was very serious and was a big shock for me as in my country Scotland, we even don』t have this word in our dictionary.

他們可以看出，在這次長途旅行後我的樣子是有多慘，但他們非常溫和有禮貌，對待我就像對待國王一樣。但有一件事很奇怪，他們給我端了一杯「溫水」，什麼溫水？不，我習慣喝非常冰的水啊。我彷彿可以看到我將會怎樣在這裡生存下去。不管怎麼說，我還得在這裡住一段時間，我喝了口溫水，感覺像喝了葯。我和所有的同事們見了面，就目前的技術狀況及我對未來趨勢的預測進行了簡短的交談。之後，一位非常友好的中國女同事主動提出送我回我的住所。我很高興我終於可以休息了，因為在經歷了如此的長途旅行、交通、長時間交談和空氣污染後我真的感覺有點糟糕。噢，「霧霾」，是的，這真的是挺嚴重的，因為這對於一直生活在蘇格蘭的我來說是一個很大的衝擊，我們甚至沒有這個詞在我們的字典里。

But, on the way back to home I was told by 「Ms. Ge」 my Chinese colleague that its very normal here, and I have to use to it now just by putting on the mask when it』s too serious 「just for safety」. Ah ok ok. She offered me for lunch and I accepted her offer. We went to very traditional Chinese restaurant where I first time in my life had 「Chinese HOTPOT」. Wow it was very big, and full of vegetables, meat etc. She probably wanted to introduce her culture and food to me and she was succeeded in that. Hands up… soo delicious but very different from the west. Obviously, I could not use the chopsticks, so she asked for the fork, spoon and knife for me, which wasn』t available in that restaurant haha amazing right? Somehow we arrange a spoon only and she also did a flop try to teach me how to use chopsticks. Well after this amazing and delicious lunch got back into Car and headed back to home. Thanks to Ms. Ge. I could have enjoyed more, if I was not that tired. Ah, I almost got home.

但是，在回家的路上，我的中國同事「葛女士」告訴我，在這裡很正常，我只需要在它非常嚴重的時候戴上口罩就好了，為了」健康「。哎好吧好吧。她想邀請我吃午飯，我接受了她的提議。我們去了一家非常傳統的中國餐館，在那裡我嘗試了人生中第一次的「中國火鍋」。哇，鍋很大，裡面放滿了蔬菜、肉等。她可能想把她的文化和食物統統介紹給我，她成功了。我投降……很美味，但與西方截然不同。顯然，我不會用筷子，所以她去幫我要叉子、勺子和刀子，可是那家餐館沒有，哈哈，很吃驚對吧？最後還是成功拿到了一個勺子，她也很失敗地嘗試了教我如何使用筷子。在這頓美味可口的午餐後我們回到車裡向住處行進。感謝葛女士。如果我不是那麼累的話，我可以享受更多。啊，我快到家了。

Itwas almost afternoon 1.30pm, when I arrived at my apartment which I found was very fancy and decorated with Chinese traditional arts and paintings. I was quite impressed but sleepyJas well. I took very long shower and directly went in my bed. I slept deep & long and woke up at 7pm, I was fresh and active now, had a small chat with parents and went out to see the night life and colors of China.

差不多下午1點半，當我到達我的公寓時，我發現它非常華麗，裝飾著中國的傳統藝術和繪畫。我對這裡留下了很深刻的印象，但我也實在是太困了。在洗了很長時間的淋浴後，我直接倒在了床上。我睡了很深的一覺，然後在晚上7點醒了。現在的我感覺很有精神和活力，在和家裡小聊以後，我出去看了看中國的夜生活和顏色。

You knowwhen you are fresh, everything seems positive and good in all aspects. I preferred to walk around the area first and wanted to see the facilities near my apartment. Wooww, I was in Sanlitun full of colors, and people with whom I could talk hahah… bars, night clubs, foods and drinks, music on the road. A guy with a guitar singing a song that left image in my mind and I felt to awesome. Hmmm the song was 「Dididididididaaadaa」 something like that but I still remember that tone if you know this song please share with me.

你知道，當你感覺有精神和活力時，一切似乎都是美好的。我想先在附近四處走走，然後看看公寓附近的設施。哇，我身在彩色的三里屯，還有一群和我說著相同語言的人可以聊天哈哈……一路上有酒吧，夜俱樂部，食物和飲料，還有音樂。一個年輕人在用吉他唱一首歌，在我的腦海中留下了深刻的形象，我覺得棒極了。嗯……這首歌唱起來是「滴滴滴滴答答滴答」這樣的，但我仍然清晰記得它的旋律。如果你知道這首歌，請與我分享。

So, I went to the bar – grabbed a cocktail and was sitting in the Sanlitun Bar Street (probably they have removed it now). Was enjoying planning for the next working day as well. A group of foreigners were there, so I had chance to mingle with people from different countries. I could feel that the China is the place where you see nationalities from around the world with different objectives and purposes. Soon I had few friends from France, Germany and Thailand.

然後我去了酒吧——點了杯雞尾酒，坐在三里屯酒吧街上（可能他們現在已經把它拆了吧）。我邊享受邊計劃著下一個工作日的安排。有一群外國人在那裡，所以我有機會和來自不同國家的朋友們聊聊天。我能感覺到，在中國你可以看到來自世界各地不同民族的人們為了各自的目的來到這裡。不久，我便結交了來自法國、德國和泰國的朋友。

NowIt』s been almost 6 years I am still here in China, but the thoughts are completely changed. I can stay here forever and I admit that I love this place, people and culture.

如今我已經在中國將近6年了，但是我的想法完全改變了。我可以永遠待在這裡，我承認我愛這個地方，這裡的人們和文化。
