憤怒之餘,我們對自己的生命足夠負責嗎?一起來讀《道德經》Daodejing

在最近令人扼腕的醫藥醫療事件中,我們普通消費者完全只是受害者嗎?

反思,應該是這個社會中每個人的責任。下面讓我們借著醫聖張仲景在兩千多年前所著《傷寒論》的序言,反思我們對自己生命的責任。

In the recent regretful event of fake medicine, are we, as ordinary consumers, just victims?

In fact reflection is needed for everyone in this society.Here let"s reflect on our own part of responsibility of lives through reading the following preface ofShang Han Lun, authoredby Zhang Zhongjing, the Sage in Chinese Medicine, two thousand years ago.

余每覽越人入虢之診,望齊候之色,未嘗不慨然嘆其才秀也。怪當今居世之士,曾不留神醫藥,精究方術,上以療君親之疾,下以治貧賤之厄,中以保身長全,但竟逐榮勢,企踵權豪,孜孜汲汲,唯名利是務,崇飾其末,忽棄其本,華其外而悴其內,皮之不存,毛將安附焉?卒然遭邪風之氣,嬰非常之疾,患及禍至,而方振憟,降志屈節,欽望巫祝,告窮歸天,束手受敗,齎百年之壽命,持至貴之重器,委付凡醫,恣其所措,咄嗟嗚呼!厥身以斃,神明消滅,變為異物,幽潛重泉,徒為啼泣。痛夫!舉世昏迷,莫能覺悟,不惜其命,若是輕生,彼何榮勢之雲哉!而進不能愛人知人,退不能愛身知己;遇災值禍,身居厄地,蒙蒙昧昧,蠢若遊魂。哀乎!趨世之士,馳競浮華,不顧根本,忘軀徇物,危若冰谷,至於是也。

我每當閱讀歷史上扁鵲到虢國為虢太子診病及望診齊桓候的記載,不得不讚歎他才能出眾。奇怪當今社會上這些受了教育的人,從來不曾留神用心於醫藥和醫術,這門技術對上可以用來治療君王和父母的疾患,對下可以拯救百姓的苦難,在中間可以保全自己健康長壽。然而今天的讀書人,都在爭相追求富貴和權勢,仰慕權貴豪門,急不可待地把精力都投在追求名利地位上,崇尚浮華的外在末節,而不顧健康這個根本,結果外表雖然很美但內在卻已經枯萎。就好像皮沒有了,毛能附在哪裡呢?當突然遭受病邪衝擊之時,身染嚴重的疾病,感受到痛苦,方才因恐懼而有所觸動。這時會不顧降低身份,屈尊降節,虔誠地祈禱消災。如果祈禱不管用,也沒有什麼其它出路,就只能歸於天命,束手待斃。或者把自己本來可活百歲,最為寶貴和重要的身體,交付給平庸的醫生,任憑他們擺布。可悲啊!身體死亡了,精神也隨之泯滅,變成鬼魂,只能在幽暗的黃泉中哭泣。多麼讓人痛心!整個社會都昏沉迷惑,不能覺醒,不愛惜自己的生命。若是這樣看輕生命,那談榮華權勢有什麼用呢?進一步不能去愛護、了解別人;退一步也不能愛護、了解自己。遇到災禍、身處困境的時候,糊裡糊塗,如同遊盪的鬼魂一樣愚蠢。可憐呀!在世俗中奔波的這些讀書人,爭相追逐表面的榮華,不重視根本,被身外物質驅動而不顧自己的身體。所謂的如履薄冰如臨深淵的危險,也就是這個程度。

Every time when I read the records of famousancient doctor, Bian Que, I have to praise him for his excellence. It isstrange that those educated in today"s society have seldom paid attention to medicineand medical skills, which can be used to treat the diseases of the king orparents, to save normal people from suffering,and to preservetheir own health and longevity. These educated people are struggling to pursueriches and power, admiring celebrities and plutocracy, and eagerlydevoting all their energy to establish fame and wealth. They refine and polishthe external flamboyance, which likes the leaves of life, at expense of innerhealth, which is the fundamentals. So they have beautiful appearance whilebeing withered inside. It"s just like that nowhere the hair can be attached toif there"s no skin. When sudden attack of the disease comes, they get sick severelyand suffer a lot from that. Only at this moment, they reflect themselves due tothe fear. Then they condescend to pray for getting out of disasters. There willbe no other choices if it does not work. Or, they have to allow inferior doctorsto decide the condition of their bodies, the most valuable and important thingin life. How sad it is! As the body dies and the spirit vanishes, they can onlycry in the gloomy hell as ghosts. How painful it is! Now the whole society are confused and murky, unableto be enlightened, and do not cherish their own lives. If lives are looked downin that way, what is the use of wealth and power? As expanding to society, theycan"t love and understand others. As withdrawing to selves, they can"t love andunderstand themselves. When the disaster comes, they are bewildered and act assilly as wandering ghosts. How pitiful it is! These educated people spend allthe time busy in this world, competing for the superficial glory and beingdriven by the materialism without paying attention to the fundamentals of lives.This is as dangerous as standing on the thin ice or at edge of deep abyss.

道德經【第十六章】Dao De Jing , Chapter 16

【第十六章】致虛極,守靜篤,萬物並作,吾以觀復。夫物芸芸,各復歸其根。歸根曰靜,靜謂復命。復命曰常,知常曰明,不知常,妄作,凶。知常容,容乃公,公乃王,王乃天,天乃道,道乃久,沒身不殆。

(修行的方法)是觀察萬物的虛無,直到其極點,同時堅守於萬物本體不變的寂靜。當萬物呈現在我面前時,我只是返觀它們的根源。事物雖然千變萬化,然而它們的源頭都是一樣的。回到源頭便是寂靜,而寂靜就是回歸生命的本體(自性),便是永恆。體驗到這個永恆,便是覺悟。如果不了解本體的永恆,那麼就會做出荒誕的行為,帶來災禍。如果能了解本體的永恆,則能包容萬物,而不以好惡的分別心對待,如果沒有分別心,那麼就會擁有某種影響世界的能量,這種能量來自於宇宙,這就是道,而道之恆久,即使所依附的肉身沒有了,也不會消失。

Reach the ultimate of emptiness of all and deeply guard stillness of essence. When the things of the world arise together in front of me, I just contemplate their returns to the root. Although the things of the world present countless forms, their source is the same in contemplation. Returning to the root is called stillness; stillness is returning to essence of lives; this is eternity; understanding the eternity is called enlightenment. Not understanding that one acts blindly which results in disaster. One can accommodate everything with understanding of eternity. Accommodation leads to impartiality;impartiality produces power like king of world; the power comes from the universe. It is the Dao. Dao lasts so long that it won』t diminish even the material body dies.
