長途飛行+短暫的家庭旅館/酒店後，就要租房（買房）了，那第一件事情開通就是水電氣賬戶。給水電氣公司熱線打電話開賬戶是不是聽起來很可怕？除了電話中無限的等待，還要用英文溝通很多專業細節的東西？

不要擔心，搞定這個短文的內容，再提前準備好答案，就可以放心大膽的慢慢的清晰的和電話中心的代理溝通吧：）

第一步：廢話

How are you? I am fine, thank you. And you? 把韓梅梅教我們的用了之後，就可以進入正題了：

I"d like to open a new account with BC hydro/Fortis BC/Enbridge Gas, please?

第二步：個人信息

這部分內容包含非常簡單的內容，會問你

May I have your first name and last name, please?

For security reason, may I also have your date of birth and your telephone number, please?

Is this a cell phone number or home phone number?當然，如果聽到landline也不用擔心，也是座機

Do you have an alternate number you would like to put in your profile, please? 問你有沒有第二個號碼，沒有就說No, thank you。但是別加And you？

Have you had any accounts with us before? 如果有那就報以前的賬戶號碼Account number，沒有就說No, thank you。但是別加And you？

May I have your email to set up online profile?

May I have your email to set up an online profile so that you can check your bills online?

May I have your email for email billing/e-billing/paperless billing, please

上面三個問題都是要電子郵件給你發電子賬單。這個環保，但是胖哥還是會建議留最少一個水電氣公司的紙質賬單（再加一個銀行的紙質賬單），會比較方便。Sorry, may I have a paper bill, please?

第三步：房子和入住信息

The address and postcode of the property, please? （很少會用到郵編，不過我還是寫上吧，萬一呢）這個部分說法稍多，但是記住就是問你的地址！比如有時候會問apply for the service for? 就是地址，要提供水電氣服務的房子的地址即可！

Are you renting or buying/purchasing?

Are you renting or are you the owner of the property?

不管是過去還是將來時態，下面幾個的意思是一樣的，你都可能遇

What』s the possession date?

When did you take possession of the property?

When did you get the key?

When did you become responsible for this property?

When did you take over this address?

What"s the closing date? （這個只針對買的房子，買房子的交割日。可以入住後再打熱線，但是最好入住前打熱線開好賬戶）

Is this a residential or commercial property?

For tenant: may I have the name and telephone number of your landlord (property manager), please?

Also: name and telephone number of a reference – anyone who does not live with you in this property. A family member, friend, etc.

重點來了：authorization – do you want to add anyone in your account so that this person can call us to discuss or change information on your behalf? 如果你的英語好，但是房子是你不太講英語的親戚的，那就請你親戚把你的名字加到賬戶上。或者你的英語還不太好，所以想加一個人代表你溝通。這就是你需要做的 - 給授權。

經常能遇到女兒代替媽媽溝通。。。或者自己回國了，就找哥們冒充自己溝通問問欠多少錢，其實這都是違反隱私法的。在信任的情況下，把別人加到你的賬戶上，別人就可以合法替你溝通。如果你回來了，或者不信任這個人了，或者。。。隨時打熱線把這個人從你的賬戶上刪掉（remove）即可。

第三步：賬單和付款

接下來，就是RP測試了。你可能會聽到：

It』s to set up a credit relationship with the utility company. There are three ways:

1. run a credit check over the phone – this requires your ID information such as BC driver license number, BC ID number, or your passport number. Sometimes, credit card information is also required. If pass, a security deposit will be waivered. If not, goes to next option.

2. security deposit – pay a lump sum deposit (200刀左右，看房子大小), and the deposit will be returned to your account as credit （餘額）after 12 month on-time payments. (The security deposit might be waivered for small consumption properties)

3. credit report from other utility companies. （胖哥至今沒有遇到過選這個選項的，但是遇到過好多豪直接說，別做信用檢查了，我就付安全押金就好了）

這裡提醒一下，一定要按時付賬單呀，積累信用很重要。而且，有的公司的安全押金的賬單是單獨給你的，有的公司的安全押金是和第一次賬單一起發給你的。

RP測試你三選一後，水電氣公司一般會再給你兩個『高大上』的選項（他們會介紹的）：

You can go to your online profile to sign up two programs:

- Pre-authorization payment. 預授權自動扣款計劃。注意只能提供bank information or check information。信用卡不管是萬事達還是Visa還是黑AE，對不起，如果非要用信用卡只能通過第三方付款公司來付，而且要付1.75%左右的手續費（Hu cares…這個老梗40歲以下的恐怕都看不懂了）。

- Equal payment or budget billing. 就是預估一個數字，每個月付一樣的金額，一年秋後算賬一次，多退少補。
