Jack and the Beanstalk 傑克與豆莖

Once upon a time there lived a poor widow and her son Jack.
從前，有一個很窮的寡婦和她的兒子傑克生活在一起。
One day, Jack』s mother told him to sell their only cow.
有一天，母親告訴傑克要把他們唯一的牛賣掉。
Jack went to the market and on the way he met a man who wanted to buy his cow.
傑克於是到集市賣牛，在路上，傑克遇到了一個男人想買他的牛。
Jack asked, "What will you give me in return for my cow?"
傑克問：「你要給我什麼來換我的牛？」
The man answered, "I will give you five magic beans!"
男人回答道：「我會給你五個魔豆！」
Jack took the magic beans and gave the man the cow.
傑克拿到了魔豆，把牛給了那個男人。
But when he reached home, Jack』s mother was very angry.
但是當他到家以後，傑克的媽媽非常地生氣。
She said, "You fool! He took away your cow and gave you some beans!"
她說：「你真傻！他牽走了你的牛，就只給你這些豆子！」
She threw the beans out of the window. Jack was very sad and he went to sleep without dinner.
她把豆子扔出了窗外。傑克非常傷心，沒有吃晚飯就上床睡覺了。
The next day, when Jack woke up in the morning and looked out of the window, he saw that a huge beanstalk had grown from his magic beans!
第二天他睡醒時，朝窗外一看，看到從他的魔豆里長出了一根巨型豆莖！
He climbed up the beanstalk and reached a kingdom in the sky. There lived a giant and his wife.
他爬上豆莖，到達了天上的王國。那裡住了一個巨人和他的妻子。
Jack went inside the house and found the giant』s wife in the kitchen.
傑克走進房子里，看見巨人的老婆正在廚房。
Jack said, "Could you please give me something to eat? I am so hungry!"
他說：「你能給我一些吃的么？我太餓了！」
The kind wife gave him bread and some milk.
好心的婦人給了他麵包和牛奶。
While he was eating, the giant came home. The giant was very big and looked very fearsome.
他正在吃的時候，巨人回家了。巨人非常的大，看起來非常可怕。
Jack was terrified and went and hid inside.
傑克很害怕，他躲了起來。
The giant cried, "Fee-fi-fo-fum, I smell the blood of an English man. Be he alive, or be he dead, I』ll grind his bones to make my bread!"
巨人大聲咆哮著：「Fee-fi-fo-fum，我聞到了一個英國男人的血的味道！不管他是活的還是死的，我都要磨碎他的骨頭做麵包！」
The wife said, "There is no boy in here!"
他的妻子說：「這裡沒有人！」
So, the giant ate his food and then went to his room. He took out his sacks of gold coins, counted them and kept them aside. Then he went to sleep.
於是巨人吃完東西進了屋子。他拿出麻袋裡的錢，數了數，把它們放在一邊。然後他就去睡覺了。
In the night, Jack crept out of his hiding place, took one sack of gold coins and climbed down the beanstalk.
到了晚上，傑克從他躲藏的地方爬了出來，拿了一麻袋的金幣，爬下了豆莖。
At home, he gave the coins to his mother. His mother was very happy and they lived well for some time.
回家後，他把金幣給了媽媽。媽媽高興極了，他們過了一段好日子。
After a while Jack climbed the beanstalk and went to the giant』s house again.
過了一段時間，傑克又爬上了豆莖，走到巨人的屋子裡。
Once again, Jack asked the giant』s wife for food, but while he was eating the giant returned.
又一次，傑克向巨人的妻子要了食物。但是當他在吃的時候，巨人回來了。
Jack leapt up in fright and went and hid under the bed.
傑克一下子跳了起來，藏在了床底下。
The giant cried, "Fee-fi-fo-fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman. Be he alive, or be he dead, I』ll grind his bones to make my bread!"
巨人大聲咆哮著：「Fee-fi-fo-fum，我聞到了一個英國男人的血的味道！不管他是活的還是死的，我都要磨碎他的骨頭做麵包！」
The wife said, "There is no boy in here!"
他的妻子說：「這裡沒有人！」
The giant ate his food and went to his room. There, he took out a hen.
巨人吃完東西進了房間。這次他拿出了一隻母雞。
He shouted, "Lay!" and the hen laid a golden egg.
他喊道：「下蛋！」然後母雞就下了一個金蛋。
When the giant fell asleep, Jack took the hen and climbed down the beanstalk. Jack』s motherwas very happy with him.
當巨人睡著以後，傑克拿走了母雞，又爬下了豆莖。傑克的媽媽高興極了。
After somedays, Jack once again climbed the beanstalk and went to the giant』s castle.
過了幾天，傑克又爬上了豆莖，走到巨人的城堡里。
For the third time, Jack met the giant』s wife and asked for some food. Once again, the giant』s wife gave him bread and milk.
第三次，傑克碰到了巨人的妻子，並要了些食物。又一次，巨人的妻子給了他麵包和牛奶。
But while Jack was eating, the giant came home.
但是當他在吃的時候，巨人回來了。
"Fee-fi-fo-fum,I smell the blood of an Englishman. Be he alive, or be he dead, I』ll grind his bones to make my bread!" cried the giant.
「Fee-fi-fo-fum，我聞到了一個英國男人的血的味道！不管他是活的還是死的，我都要磨碎他的骨頭做麵包！」
"Don』t be silly! There is no boy in here!"said his wife.
「別傻了，這裡沒有人！」他的妻子說。
The giant had a magical harp that could play beautiful songs.
巨人帶回了一把有魔力的豎琴，它可以彈奏很多美妙的歌曲。
While the giant slept, Jack took the harp and was about to leave.
當巨人睡著以後，傑克拿著豎琴，正準備離開。
Suddenly, the magic harp cried, "Help, master! A boy is stealing
me!"
突然，魔琴大喊：「救命，主人！有個男孩想要把我偷走！」
The giant woke up and saw Jack with the harp. Furious, he ran after Jack.
巨人醒了，看見傑克拿著豎琴。巨人狂怒地追在傑克後面。
But Jack was too fast for him. He ran down the beanstalk and reached home.
但是傑克比他跑得更快。他跑下豆莖，回到了家。巨人跟在他後面。
The giant followed him. Jack quickly ran inside his house and fetched an axe.
傑克快速地跑進屋子裡，取來一把斧子。
He began to chop the beanstalk. The giant fell and died.
他開始砍這個豆莖。巨人摔了下來死了。
Jack and his mother were now very rich and they lived happily ever after.
傑克和他的媽媽變得非常富有，從此過上了幸福快樂的生活。
