白頭髮「不是「white hair」……那該怎麼說？

今天小八想來跟大家說說顏色的事情。

其實，在英文當中，很多顏色並不能直譯，比如說這個「white hair」~你是不是以為這是「白髮」的意思？其實不然，你要是這個跟歪果人說，他們真的不一定能聽懂哦~

一般表達「白髮」的說法是gray hair~~除非是那種滿頭白髮找不出來黑髮的才說「white hair」，大部分表達還是用的gray hair 哦~美式英語里喜歡用「gray」，英式英語里則用「grey」。

eg：He was a tall, stout man with gray hair.

他是個又高又胖、頭髮灰白的男子。

white day≠白天

「White Day」的全稱是「White Valentine"s Day 」，即「白色情人節」。就是每年的3月14這一天。此外，「white day」還有一個意思，「吉日」。

eg：They choose a white day for their engagement.

他們選擇吉日訂婚。

white hat≠白色帽子

這其實是一個俚語，常常用於口語中表示好人的意思。因為在美國西部，好人帶白帽子，壞人帶黑帽子，所以就會用white hat代指好人，相當於Good people 或者nice guy.

eg：He seems like a white-hat，but he"s a worm.

他看上去彷彿是個好人，但卻是個卑鄙傢伙。

white elephant≠白色的大象

這個詞跟大象沒有關係，它真正的意思是無用的，不需要的累贅物。值得是通常會花費很多錢來維護的東西。

eg：Your car is a white elephant, as it often breaks down, causing you too much expenditure.

你的車就是個累贅，經常拋錨給你帶來那麼多花銷。

英國布里斯托爾大學一個由16名工程師組成的研究小組如今發現，比薩斜塔如此的高度及其堅硬的建築材料與鬆軟的地基土壤結合在一起，使它不會與地震發生時的地表活動產生共振。
