首屆西湖高等教育論壇舉行：發布聯合宣言強調國際合作

中國教育新聞網訊(記者 王強) 10月20日,西湖大學成立大會當日,首屆西湖高等教育論壇(Westlake Forum on Higher Education)在杭州舉行。來自海內外的二十餘所高校校長及代表出席了論壇,西湖大學校長施一公主持了首屆論壇。

西湖高等教育論壇是由西湖大學發起並舉辦的國際性論壇,計劃自今年起,每兩年舉辦一屆,初衷和主旨是邀請來自全球的知名大學校長和代表,深入探討當今大學面臨的挑戰並共同尋求解決思路。施一公表示,希望西湖高等教育論壇能為大學精神和創新思想的高層對話提供空間,成為一個分享智慧與凝聚共識的互動平台。

首屆西湖高等教育論壇圍繞「大學在解決全球問題中發揮的作用」以及「大學在科技進步前沿的作用」兩個議題展開。

施一公表示,近年來回國的中國留學生不斷增多,中國目前所經歷的變革在歷史上前所未有;回顧中國的發展歷程,開放、協作無疑是至關重要的。分享之餘,施一公代表西湖大學,感謝在場的國內外高校在這重要的變革時期,共同見證西湖大學的成立,同時提議將大家的共識作為《2018西湖高等教育論壇聯合宣言》(以下簡稱《聯合宣言》)發布,以促進全球高校之間的彼此扶持和合作共贏,更好地實現各自的目標,共同推動高等教育發展及人類文明進步。

美國聖路易斯華盛頓大學校長Mark Wrighton表達了對《聯合宣言》內容的高度贊同。他表示,在當今的美國,無論是公立還是私立的研究型大學都致力於更多的交流合作,當高校把各自的資源一起聯合起來時,我們可以共同探討如何解決我們所面臨的這些挑戰和問題。「解決這些問題,僅靠一所大學,或者是僅靠一個國家都是無法做到的。」Mark Wrighton談到,「但是我也堅信,有了像西湖大學這樣的新型大學以及發展成熟的大學,在充滿智慧的廣大教師和學生的努力下,我們一定會變得更加強大。」美國紐約大學校長Andrew Hamilton期待《聯合宣言》的簽署能對高校之間的深入合作起到積極的推動作用。他強調,對於高校學生來說,「擁有群體歸屬感和文化認同感非常重要,這種感受能成為學生之間彼此聯繫、相互學習的良好契機。」

We, the participants of the inaugural Westlake Forum on Higher Education, jointly issue the following statements on 20 October 2018 in Hangzhou, China.

2018年10月20日,我們齊聚中國杭州,參與首屆西湖高等教育論壇,共同發布如下宣言:

Humankind faces daunting global challenges on economic development, education, energy, environment, food, climate change, and healthcare. As an indispensable pillar of any modern society, universities transform the world through education and research. Education and research transcend national borders and benefit greatly from international collaboration and cooperation.

人類在經濟發展、教育、能源、環境、食品、氣候變化和醫療保健等方面,都面臨著全球挑戰。作為現代社會不可或缺的支柱,大學通過教育和研究改變世界。教育和研究超越國界,並且極大地受益於國際合作。

To address the global challenges and to respond to calls of our community and the world, we believe the universities should play a more active role through improved collaboration and cooperation. In particular, we should

為積極應對全球挑戰,反哺社會和全世界,我們認為大學應加強合作,積極做出貢獻,我們尤其應該:

●encourage exchange of students;

●鼓勵學生交換

●facilitate regular visits by faculty and staff;

●促進教職員工定期互訪

●promote joint interdisciplinary research;

●推動跨學科聯合研究

●strengthen collaborations in research and academic affairs;

●加強科研和學術合作

●protect academic freedom within the legal framework of each nation.

The international spirit of collaboration among universities is particularly important today.The general trend of cooperation among major powers of the world in the past decades has faced new obstacles, creating challenges for universities as well as for students and scholars.

當今時代,大學之間的國際合作更加重要,世界主要大國之間過去幾十年合作的總體趨勢遭遇了新的阻礙,給大學以及學生和學者帶來了挑戰。

We believe in a shared future for people of all nations. The world will be made safer and better through mutual understanding, productive engagement, responsive dialogue, and meaningful cooperation.

我們相信,世界的未來屬於人類共同體,各國人民同呼吸、共命運。通過相互理解、有效參與、積極對話以及精誠合作,我們將構建一個更安全、更美好的世界。
