今天是2018年11月11日，是中國的雙十一，人們狂歡購物的日子。但在英倫三島則是陣亡將士紀念日。1918年的今天第一次世界大戰正式結束，到今天正好整整100年。

像往年那樣，大不列顛所有公民在每年這一天的11點鐘，無論在哪裡，無論在幹什麼，都停下來，向那些在歷次戰爭中陣亡的將士默哀一分鐘。英國女王在倫敦要舉行國家紀念活動，人們將佩戴紅罌粟花來紀念陣亡將士。

在紀念一戰停戰100周年之際，林賽家族也出了個一戰英雄。

11月9日英國南方的德文郡和康沃爾郡警察署，為了紀念停戰100周年，做了大量的調查，將那些無人知曉和被人們遺忘的戰鬥英雄查找出來，其中就包括威廉爺爺的弟弟愛德華.林賽。

列兵愛德華.林賽，全名叫愛德華.漢密爾頓.林賽（1886-1919）,在參戰前他是一名康沃爾郡的警察。

威廉的姐姐多莉住在英國南方德文郡，她代表林賽家族參加了德文郡和康沃爾警察署舉辦的停戰紀念活動。

愛德華.漢密爾頓.林賽是威廉爺爺約翰.米德爾頓.林賽的親弟弟。他在索姆河戰役中受傷，雖然有幸逃脫德國人的子彈，但因傷勢嚴重死於之後的傷口感染和疾病。他去世的時候年僅33歲。

多莉說，當天的活動非常感動人。警察署在查找英雄方面作出了極大的努力。

作為戰前是警察的愛德華.林賽的後人，能邀請參加停戰100周年紀念活動，感到榮幸。

林賽家族為活動提供了兩張照片。一張是列兵林賽在康沃爾特魯羅城市政廳警察署徵兵辦公室外，身穿剛剛領到的新軍裝，看上去很神氣。第二張是他和妻子蕾切爾的合影。

在德文郡和康沃爾警察署麥克.羅斯威爾警官及其團隊成員的努力下，這些在第一次世界大戰中犧牲又被遺忘的將士才得以讓人知曉，得到紀念。林賽家族非常感謝警察署所做的所有努力。

What was known at the time as The Great War came to an official end at 11am on November 11th in 1918 — exactly 100 years ago this Sunday.

As usual, people all over GB stop what they are doing for 1 minute of silence on what』s become known as Remembrance Day. The national event is led by the Queen in London. The symbol of remembrance is the red poppy, which grows in profusion on Great War battlefields.

Our Grandfather』s brother, Edward, was wounded in the Battle of the Somme, and died the day after he left the army in 1919.

Yesterday, in Devon, a remembrance service was held in the honor of forgotten war heroes, among them Edward Lindesay.

Auntie Dolly kindly attended the Armistice Sevice today at the Headquarters of the Devon and Cornwall Police as representative of the Lindesay family. Edward Hamilton Lindesay, was the brother of our grandfather John Middleton Lindesay; he died tragically aged 33. See below photos of the service and a tribute;

Auntie Dolly said the service was very moving and the Police were outstanding for the way they traced relatives.

"As great nieces and great nephews of Police Constable Edward Lindesay we are honoured to attend the memorial service of the 100th anniversary of the Armistice.

We are all of the age of not having to experience the horrors of war. The wider Lindesay family knew of Edward Lindesay』s service in the Great War and his participation in the battle of the Somme, his initial lucky escape from a German bullet which hit his cartridge clasp and the wound he suffered in battle at a later date.

The family possess two photographs of him; the first one shows Private Lindesay with his police colleagues outside the Truro City 特魯羅城;Hall recruitment office standing proudly and innocently in his new Coldstream Guards Uniform. The second photograph is poignant in that it is a portrait of Lindesay with his wife Rachel emphasising (although not known at the time) … a 「life unfulfilled」 as he sadly died, from his wounds, on January 15 1919 – just one day after leaving the army.

This memory and connection with the self-sacrifice of those who fought in the Great War has only been possible by the tireless efforts of Mark Rothwell and his team of the Devon and Cornwall police. The Lindesay family will be eternally grateful for their investigative drive and determination to ensure that those that fought and sacrificed their lives will never be forgotten."
