1950年代的「線上購物」潮

你知道嗎？

早在1950年代，

人們就可以坐在椅子上

舒舒服服地挑選心儀商品了！

It was over 65 years ago that

the first ever shopping from a distance was born.

那是在加拿大安大略省的彭布羅克，

當地企業家Lawrence Freiman開了一家商店

名為Vis-o-matic.

Thanks to the entrepreneurial spirit of Lawrence Freiman,

citizens od Pembroke, Ontario in Canada,

could shop from a chair as early as in the 1950s.

那是一種怎樣的購物體驗呢？來看一組珍貴老照片吧~

在這家商店，顧客可以坐在屏幕前瀏覽各種商品。

在那個電子設備和電腦還沒有普及的年代，許多操作還要靠手動：

Before the age of electronics and computers, there was more manual work

而對顧客來說，你只要通過幾個簡單的按鈕，就可以控制幻燈片了。商品選擇範圍也很廣泛，衣服、玩具、廚房用品...應有盡有。

Using these controls, customers were able to flip through a slew of items at the touch of a button, including clothing, toys, and housewares.

無論是和家人

A family experience

還是和朋友

And a place for hanging with friends

或是一個人，都可以享受不一樣的購物體驗。

小朋友們也不例外哦~

Kids were not spared obviously

下單以後，商品由快遞直送到家。

Once the order was made, it was hand-delivered at home

可惜啊，後來這家商店好像在歷史中神秘消失了，

在網上搜不到關於這家商店還有系統發明者的信息，

只能找到這些《LIFE》雜誌未經發表的照片。

唯一確實的信息是「A.J. Freiman Limited」這家公司，

在1970年代初被賣給了一家大公司。

Called Vis-o-matic,

the invention functioned for some years,

but was later forgotten.

There』s little to no information on the internet

about it or its inventor,

except for these photographs for a LIFE magazine article

which may never have been published.

The only known fact is that 「A.J. Freiman Limited」 was sold

to a larger company at the beginning of the seventies.

雖然這項技術在多年後逐漸被人遺忘，

但不得不說，

Freiman先生的想法已經是非常超前了。

Still, Mr. Freiman turned out to be

one cool guy for being so ahead of his time.
