US President Donald Trump on Monday tweeted that US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will soon "begin the process of removing the millions of illegal" migrants from the United States.

Trump also stressed that Mexico was "doing a very good job of stopping people" long before they get to the US border.

Thousands of migrants have walked to Mexico"s border with the US in the past few years in hopes of receiving asylum, prompting Trump to declare a national emergency as a means of securing funds to build a border wall.

Trump threatened Mexico with trade tariffs In May as a means of pressing its southern neighbor to alleviate what he claimed was an immigration crisis.

After lengthy talks the two nations reached an agreement on immigration in early June. Trump said that he would "indefinitely suspend" the threat of tariffs after the talks were completed.

As part of the US-Mexico agreement on immigration measures, Mexico announced the deployment of 6,000 National Guard troops throughout the country and to its southern border with Guatemala to respond to an inflow of illegal immigrants seeking to reach the US.
