威廉·莎士比亞（1564年4月23日－1616年4月23日）

英國文學史上最傑出的戲劇家，歐洲文藝復興時期最重要、最偉大的作家。

16世紀末到17世紀初的20多年期間莎士比亞在倫敦開始了成功的職業生涯，他不僅是演員、劇作家，還是宮內大臣劇團的合伙人之一。

他的早期劇本主要是喜劇和歷史劇，在16世紀末期達到了深度和藝術性的高峰。

後來他主要創作悲劇，常常描寫犧牲與復仇，包括《奧賽羅》、《哈姆雷特》、《李爾王》和《麥克白》，被認為屬於英語最佳範例。

在他人生最後階段，他開始創作悲喜劇，又稱為傳奇劇。
