How Can One Meet Buddha?

有一種傳說，去五台山一定能遇到文殊菩薩。按理說也一定能遇到，但是人不一定能認識到。文殊菩薩特別慈悲，不可能捨棄眾生，一定會加持眾生、攝受眾生。但是人不一定能接受到。有的人到五台山了，見到文殊菩薩了，得到文殊菩薩的加持了。有的人年年都去，就是見不到。這是個人的問題，業障重，認識不到。

It is said that once you go to the Mount Wutai, you are sure to meet Manjusri. By rights, one is sure to meet Manjusri, but he may not know it. Manjusri is very compassionate, unlikely to desert any sentient beings, instead he is sure to bless and accept all beings. But human beings may not receive it. Some people who go to the Mount Wutai meet and get blessed by Manjusri, while others go there every year, but have never seen the Bodhisattva. This is the problem of one』s own, because they have serious karmic obscuration and can』t realize it.

曾經，無著菩薩進山閉關，非常熱切地想見到彌勒菩薩，可是經過了四年的苦修，他連一個好夢都沒有做過，他決定下山。但是路上卻見到了一位老婦人在磨鐵棒，她要把鐵棒磨成針。對照自己，無著菩薩感到很羞愧，他改變了主意，決定回去。又經過了四年的苦修，他還是沒有任何感應，他再次決定下山。但是在路上，他卻見到了一個人，拿著羽毛在刷一座大山，因為這座大山擋住了他家的陽光，他要把這座大山刷掉。見此情景，他決定回去繼續閉關。又經過了四年的苦修，他依然沒有任何收穫，在他完全絕望，第三次決定永遠離開閉關房之後，他見到了一隻下半身腐爛又長滿蛆蟲的狗。他的心中頓時生起了無比的慈悲心！他從自己身上割下一塊肉給那隻狗吃，他想用手把狗身上的蛆蟲抓掉，卻怕傷害它們，於是決定用舌頭去舔。就在這時，那隻狗不見了，同樣的地方卻出現了四周帶著光輪的彌勒菩薩！彌勒菩薩告訴他，自己一直都沒有離開過他，一直都在他身邊，但是他感覺不到。彌勒菩薩時刻都在給他加持，但是他沒有認識到。其實他在路上看見的那個磨鐵棍的人，還有那個刷羽毛的人，都是彌勒菩薩的化現。當他真正生起了慈悲心，業障立刻清凈了，真正見到了彌勒菩薩，也得到了彌勒菩薩的攝受。

Once upon a time, Bodhisattva Asanga went to the mountain to retreat, eager to meet Maitreya. But after four years of practice, he even didn』t dream a good dream, so he decided to go down the mountain. However, on his way he met a senior lady, who was grinding an iron bar, trying to turn it into a needle. Reflecting upon himself, Bodhisattva Asanga felt so ashamed that he changed his idea and decided to go back. After another four years of practice, he still didn』t get any response, so he made up his mind again to go down the mountain. However, on his way, he met a person, who was brushing a mountain with just a feather to remove it because the mountain blocked the sunshine from his house. Seeing this, he once more made up his mind to continue to retreat. After a third four years of practice, he still didn』t have any harvest. He was desperate and for the third time decided to leave the hermitage forever. But later, he saw a dog whose lower part of the body was rotten and covered with maggots. Immediately infinite compassion arose in his mind! He cut a piece of flesh from his body and gave it to the dog, and he wanted to pinch the maggots from the dog but worried that it would hurt them, so he decided to lick them with his own tongue. Just at that time, the dog disappeared, and in the very place appeared Maitreya with nimbuses around! Maitreya told him that he had never ever left Bodhisattva Asanga, but he couldn』t sense it. Maitreya was blessing him all the time, but he didn』t realize it. Actually, both the person who ground the iron bar and the person who brushed the feather were all manifestations of Maitreya. When he aroused the real compassion, his bad karmic obscuration was purified at once, and he saw Maitreya and got accepted.

同樣，能不能見到佛，能不能得到佛的加持，就靠你自己。靠你自己的緣分、福德和善根。如果你的福德、善根和機緣都成熟了就能見到，否則你根本見不到。

Similarly, it depends on yourself, your cause and condition, merits and good roots whether you can see Buddha or get blessed. If your merits, good roots and cause and condition are mature, you can see Buddha; otherwise, you can』t.

As host to over 53 sacred monasteries, Mount Wutai is home to many of China s most important monasteries and temples. Mount Wǔtái is one of the Four Sacred Mountains in Chinese Buddhism.
