1926年8月13日，菲德爾?卡斯特羅出生於古巴奧爾金省比蘭鎮，他的父親是當地有名的甘蔗種植園主。

1945年考入哈瓦那大學法律系，學習民法、外交、行政管理和社會科學，並被選為反對獨裁、堅持民主的「大學生聯合會」主席。

In 1945, he was admitted to the University of Havana law school, studying civil law, foreign affairs, administration and Social Sciences, and was elected the president of the "College Union" against dictatorship and democracy.

1952年6月，古巴舉行議會選舉，菲德爾?卡斯特羅作為哈瓦那選區的代表當選為全國議會議員候選人。但這次選舉被巴蒂斯塔獨裁政權宣布取消。他向法院提出起訴，指控當局行為違背1940年憲法，但遭到法院駁回。從此，他產生了革命思想。

In June 1952, Cuba holds parliamentary elections, and Castro Fidel, as the representative of the Havana District, was elected as a candidate for the national assembly. But the election was announced by the Batista dictatorship. He filed a suit against the court, accusing the authorities of violating the constitution of 1940, but was rejected by the court. Since then, he has produced revolutionary ideas.

1953年7月26日，領導發動反對巴蒂斯塔獨裁政權的武裝起義，攻打蒙卡達兵營，失敗後被捕，在法庭上發表了著名的自我辯護詞《歷史將宣判我無罪》。

1976年起任國務委員會主席兼部長會議主席。在1981年、1986年、1993年、1998年2月24日和2003年3月6日選舉中獲勝，連任國務委員會主席。

2006年7月27日，菲德爾?卡斯特羅因腸胃出血接受手術，當月31日把權力暫時移交給他的弟弟、古巴國務委員會第一副主席勞爾?卡斯特羅。

2008年2月19日，菲德爾?卡斯特羅宣布，他「不尋求也不接受」再次擔任國務委員會主席和革命武裝部隊總司令兩項職務 。

In February 19, 2008, Castro Fidel announced that he did not seek or accept, once again served as the chairman of the State Council and the revolutionary armed forces commander in chief of the two duties.

2011年4月，菲德爾?卡斯特羅在政府網站上撰文說，他不再擔任古巴共產黨的領導職務。

In April 2011, Castro Fidel wrote on the government website that he no longer held the leadership of the Communist Party of Cuba.

2014年1月28日，菲德爾?卡斯特羅會見(時任)聯合國秘書長潘基文，就國際事務進行了深入討論。

In January 28, 2014, Castro Fidel met with the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, on the international affairs in-depth discussion.

2016年11月26日，卡斯特羅去世。

November 26, 2016, Castro died.
