第一位非常到位地詮釋了什麼叫吃貨走遍全天下
I fell in love with Beijing, the capital ofthe country: the hustle and bustle, the diversity, and the animated andfree-spirited people. Londoners in contrast are rigid and uptight. I learnt how to be suibien in China: going with the flow and taking things as they come. The Beijing accent, the errs and arrsechoed in my ears walking down the small alleyways and big roads, it was a different kind of Mandarin, not the type I had learnt from my textbooks.
我愛上了北京這個城市：她的熱鬧、多元和爽直的人們，完全沒有倫敦的刻板和拘謹。在這裡，我學會了一種隨意的生活態度：既來之則安之。在大街小巷中，總能聽到北京腔中濃濃的兒話音，別有一番滋味。
Once, I had got into a taxi at Wangfujing and gently uttered the words 『Forbidden City』 in my foreign-accented Mandarin, he couldn』t quite make out what I was saying, and I put on a deliberate forceful and heavy Beijing accent – finally he understood. Ahh he said. I was quite proud of myself, for trying on the local accent.
一次，我在王府井乘計程車去紫禁城，我用我帶著外國調的普通話嘗試說「紫禁城」，司機竟然聽不明白，於是我特意模仿北京腔調重說一遍，居然說得不差，司機終於明白了！我可感到驕傲了。
One of the first local Chinese words I learnt in the great metropolis, Beijing was 『baozi』, after nihao and xiexie of course. I was travelling in the outskirts of the city with my Italian friend on the bus, it was a treacherous journey along the winding roads. It was midday and the sun was scorching, we were there two foreigners sitting at the back of the bus minding our own business. A man approached us with white fluffy buns wrapped in a plastic…baozi..baozi!
實際上，我在這個城市學會的第一個詞語是「包子」。一次，我和我的義大利朋友在北京的郊區里乘公交，我們是公交上的唯一兩個外國人。那是好一段蜿蜒的路途。正值中午，烈日炎炎。坐在我們前面的一個中國人攤開裝滿白花花包子的塑料袋，「包子，包子，」他說。
Steaming and hot they looked delicious – we were abit cautious at first, why did this old man come over? He took one baozi forhimself, and gave us the rest of the bag. We scoffed the buns happily. It was aslightly strange but warm encounter with a Beijinger.
那些包子看上去非常美味……我們一開始還有些警惕，為什麼一個陌生人會給我們吃的呢？只見他自己拿了一個包子，然後把整個袋子給了我們。於是我們狼吞虎咽地開吃。那次跟北京人的第一次接觸，些少讓人詫異，又讓我倍感溫暖。
而第二位歪果仁「指手畫腳」的經歷，想必很多小夥伴很有共鳴吧
I had the most bizarre encounter with a local on my first visit to China. It was my last day at Jiuquan, and I was set to catch a flight from Lanzhou. I first need to take a bullet train, but realized I had bought the wrong ticket for the slow train instead, and that the bullet train station was on the other side of the city.
我第一次到中國旅遊，就經歷了人生中最奇特的旅途。那是我在酒泉的最後一天，計劃是到蘭州乘坐飛機。我需要乘坐高鐵從酒泉到蘭州，但發覺我竟然買了普通火車票，而高鐵站在城市的另一頭。
I hurriedly caught a cab and spoke to the driver with my self-taught broken Mandarin, he didn』t understand a word! Passersby tried to help, but they didn』t understand. So I resorted tousing sign language, surely they』d understand. I looked at one guy in the eye and started to gesticulate like a crazy person. I guess he was very good at playing charades, because that』s how the magic happened. I vaguely picked upsome clues from his colloquial Mandarin, 『Lanzhou』, yes! Huoche, OK, close, the fast train, so I then moved my arms to show a fast movement, I was getting somewhere. He gave me the thumbs up and a reassuring smile, and he talked to the cab driver and signaled me to get in the cab.
我趕緊截停了一輛計程車，嘗試用我自學的普通話向司機解釋，然而我的普通話實在太爛！有路人嘗試相助，但還是被我弄得一頭冒水。怎麼辦呢？用手語吧，我想。於是我誠懇地看著其中一個當地人，然後開始我瘋狂的手語交流。我猜那個人肯定是非常擅長玩「你畫我猜」這個遊戲，因為奇蹟的事情發生了。我比划了下，他答上了發音類似「蘭州」的詞語，那就對了！然後是「火車」，嗯，接近了，我要去的是高鐵，於是我用跟快的速度重複了一遍剛才的動作，這次可以了吧？只見他向我豎起大拇指，會心一笑，然後向司機喃喃幾句，示意我上車。
As you may have guessed, I arrived at the right station and luckily was able to catch my flight on time. Now looking back, I have to say it was the most telepathic experience I』d ever had. I』d love to visit China again, it』s a country full of surprises.
故事的結局嘛，當然是我順利到達正確的火車站，趕上了我的飛機。現在回想起來，那是我一生中與人最有心靈默契的一次經歷。我很期待再次到中國旅遊，這是一個充滿驚喜的國家！
