This phrase actually has nothing to do with dogs. It refers to the Dog Star, Sirius, and its position in the heaven. To the Greeks and Romans, they refer to this phrase as the hottest time of the year.

由於天氣的原因，人們情緒容易暴躁，產生摩擦。

夏至（Summer Solstice）， 也叫 June Solstice，為二十四節氣（24 solar terms）中最早定下來的節氣。在北半球（northern hemisphere），每年的夏至時間為6月20，21 或者22，是一年中白晝時間（daylight）最長的一天，太陽直射北回歸線（Tropic of Cancer），太陽高度最大，但這一天並不是一年中最熱的一天，日出時間不是一年中最早（the earliest sunrise of the year does not happen on this day），日落時間也不是一年中最晚。

立春、立夏、立秋、立冬反映季節變化，是一年四個季節的開始。
春分、夏至、秋分、冬至反映太陽在地球上的位置，太陽高度的變化。
小暑、大暑、處暑、小寒、大寒、白露、寒露、霜降反映氣溫的變化。
雨水、穀雨、小雪、大雪反映降雨降水的變化。
小滿、芒種反映作物成熟和收成情況。
清明、驚蟄反映自然現象。
